I saw Monte with bass player and drummer live in Texas several times when I lived down there 1999 to 2001. I've got his first three CDs, all of them signed by him backstage - small stage back then. He got phenomenal sound out of his acoustic and his live shows were way better than his CDs, which weren't bad, but short of his mad live improv.

The last time I saw him he opened for The Flatlanders. I was just off the stage in special seating my brother managed to get us into. It was a classic case of The Opener blowing away the main act. I like The Flatlanders, but they were way lame after Monte's show.

You unearthed a real gem there, Mike. Thanks for the heads up.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Just reviving this thread as I've now hooked a copy of Monte Montgomery's double CD, "Live at the Caravan of Dreams". It's great! Highly recommended.

Next is to find out whether this guy ever tours in my part of the world? This stuff is right up my street.

So thanks again for the heads-up, Miami Mike! :D

Cheers - C

Thanks for the review, Ceri! Based on that, I think I'll get it too. I'm not sure the guy
even leaves Texas much?
