Hello forumites,
I just bought a brand new standard black tolex blues jr, and just wanted to note that it is a very bright amp, but i knew this as i tried it out at the store and it was fine. However, when i got it home and plugged in, with the texas special bridge pickup the tone was verrrry ice picky and i need to dial the treble down to about 3 or 4 to be able to use it without piercing my eardrums. just a general question, will this treble harshness wear off as the speaker breaks in? or will i need to do a speaker swap, which im not toooo keen on at this stage.
I think im going to get some nickel strings tomorrow to try and mellow out the tone a bit more too

yes the high trebble tone will diminish some what as the speaker breaks in... for now just run the bass up and the treb down...

Did you try it out with YOUR guitar? I've made that mistake befor and was never happy with the amp so from then on I ALWAYS take my guitar and effects.

I agree, let the speaker break in. If it still doesn't do it for you, take it back instead of chasing something you won't find in that particular amp. I agree, test any amp with your own guitars.

+1...Always use my guitar or one exactly like it to test amps. But even with two of the same guitars there can be differences.

I imagine that your amp has the standard Eminence speaker,if so the treble will definitely fade as the speaker wears in,mine was about the same way.I intend to replace the Eminence with a Celestion Vintage 30 when my wallet allows it as I've heard many say that it makes a tremendous difference in the tone quality.

This may sound weird but, Try screwing down your pickus to the max or at least 7cm or 1/4". Gust give it a try and see if the harsh highs level off.

Yea, i actually did lower the ickups and it was improving but then the screws ran out of length i think and started to unscrew out of the pickguard even though it was still 3 or 4mm above the pickguard., i want to point out that it is only the texas spec. bridge pickup thats really quite ice picky and that i loooove the tone in the other 4 positions.
im thinking that its finally time to wire my bottom tone control to the bridge pup.
