Yes, Pearl Jam.

I don't know how old you are, but I was in my early 20s when grunge "hit"; although I wouldn't put any grunge band on the level of some of the other bands and artists I mentioned, Nirvana and Pearl Jam pulled new music out of the power ballad/spandex crap that was being thrust upon us. They changed the musical landscape, and IMHO, for the better.

of course the aftermath of the epic musical juggernaut of the 90s has been absolutely God-awful.... Nickelback is THE rock band, lil wayne is "the best rapper", justin bieber is R&B..... just horrible

All of Nickelback needs to be taken out in a field and shot with a small caliber handgun at medium range. Repeatedly. That dude's voice is like a rasp file on my buttocks. The only thing they ever did right was somehow convincing Billy Gibbons to play on a couple of their songs...the only good songs on any disc they have ever made, btw.

Outside of a few bright points (like the Black Keys, Jack White's various projects, solo artist Lincoln Durham and a couple of other groups/artists) the trends of the last decade are leading up to proof or disproof of my theory. Something's gotta give soon, and there is bound to be another "revolution" along the lines of Elvis, the British Invasion, Hendrix, something good...we've suffered long enough.

and note that theres always a band/a few bands that come first and preempt it, but dont quite gain the success of the later movement... a few examples for grunge being The Melvins, Green River, Mudhoney, etc.... as im checking out other forums, im noticing a lot of kids my age are being influenced by the "grunge" bands, bands like Shellac and The Jesus Lizard, early hardcore, and more recently Cage The Elephant (as in, a lot of young musicians my age with the same or similar tastes in music  ).... this leads me to believe that the next "big thing" is gonna be angry, noisy, and fed up with the BS in the mainstream right now. 8)

I'm not particularly a fan of her (and her waste of good steaks to make a dress), but at least she writes her own music & lyrics, unlike 90% of her cohorts.

shes just doing what she can to stay in the limelight.
her songs are well writen and her music targets a wide range of fans.
i think shes the sole reason X-tina and britney are struggling, and shes doing a good job at keeping the fly by nights away as well. her personal tastes aside, if its all about writing good music and selling cd's, she in there strong.
she might not be what a lot of folks listen to buy ya gotta give credit where credit is due. go lady go.

There was a bad Al Pacino movie back in 2002 called Simone (or S1m0ne). Its about a virtual actress everyone thinks is real. Not a good movie, but thats what this reminded me of.

(BTW I used to work at Blockbuster and had free rentals. Ok I'm trying to justify it now)
