I have had Lindy Fralin Vintage Hots in my strats for about 7-8 years now. I have been mainly happy with them and I like the bluesy tone. Thing is that I am now in a covers band that does a whole variety of music and sometimes I need a more subtle sound than these - something less bluesy (if that makes sense). I haven't looked at pups since I bought these and installed them so I have a couple of questions.

Firstly, was wondering if there are any alternatives now to Lindy Fralin pups for that SRV twang that I could try out. i.e. Have things moved on at all?
Secondly, what would be a softer alternative pup for my second strat?

Thanks

Fralin also offers the "Blues Special" set -- a skosh tamer in overall output but with plenty of grit for the roadhouse.

A worthy alternative for your #2 Strat might be the CS Fat '50s set from Fender. Mellower than the Texas Specials but beefy mids that melt in your mouth.

I just bought a set of Lollar pickups and installed them in my '62 RI HR,a guitar that sounded great to begin with....I have a set of Fralin Blues Specials in a '57 RI,and I have Van Zandts in another Strat.....the Lollars beat them all.
I've used lots of different pups over the years and these are the best I've heard yet.
Check out the Lollar website, they have several sets and soundclips, the ones I bought are the Blackface models with flat poles, you can mix them with whatever you want, and they come in flat pole pieces or staggered....they're expensive, around $285 a set for most.
I will buy another set for a different Strat in the future.

Bare Knuckles Slowhand set. They make Frailins look like fridge magnets.

Fralin Blues Specials are great for SRV tone. My favorite Strat pickups are now Don Mare, I'm on my second set!

Yeah but they do look good on the fridge. And they help keep the ions in the milk all the same polarity. Makes for better tea.

Never heard those pups...All I've heard from BKP are the 'Brown Sugars', not a huge fan of those, but I also don't see what the big hype over Fralin's are either.

Back to the OP, The CS Fat 50's are a good suggestion. My favorites are still Texas Specials, as they're pretty versatile.

Some very tasty suggestions here! Thanks. It seems I have to spend some time listening to them although I have to say it is going to be a difficult decision.

Another one you should check out are the "Quarter Pounders" by Seymour Duncan. They're similat to Texas Specials with a nice smooth freq. response.
