A DSL 50, or a Jubilee 6100.
A strat into a DSL clean channel on 10 here.

The Marshall isn't a great blues amp as such except for the old 1961 and 1962 (model numbers not years)Bluesbreakers. The 1987 heads with a Greenback loaded 2-12 or 4-12 cabinet will kick out a gutsy blues tone as did the 2100 lead/bass combo but the 2100 was discontinued in 1976.I have a 4210 combo 50W 1X12 combo that can sound bluesy but not in the classic "Clapton"sense. The JCM 800 2204 50W head with a 4-12 cab will give you a great blues tone at pretty reasonable volume due to it having a master volume and being only 50W doesn't need to be earsplitting to break up like the similar 100W 2203. The 2204 will give you the classic Hendrix/SRV type blues tone as compared with the Claptonesque tones of the 1962 and JTM45.If you could pick up an old Valvestate 5005 Lead 12 you would have an excellent little blues amp as it was the same model that Billy Gibbons used on My Head's In Mississippi.Of course you could save yourself a bundle of money by using an old metal body Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal that will give you a surprisingly Marshall like sound through just about any good amp with a 10" or 12"speaker.

guitslinger has given a pretty good review of classic Marshalls.

As for the current line up (including the MG and Vintage Modern am,ps), you'll have to go try some. Depending on your budget, you might want to avoid the amps made in Southeast Asia -- the ones made in the UK are the best and priciest (of course).

Are you considering used amps?

I have a 5005 Lead 12 (it's technically not a Valvestate -- there's no tube in it) and a JMP 2203 Master Volume (which doesn't need to be cranked to get some distortion going -- that SRV/Trower/Hendrix vibe).

I have always wanted to try the Class 5. Looks sweet in white.

The class 5 is a nice bluesy and rock sounding amp, but at 5 watts it's not gonna be much of a gigging amp. Overall I think Marshall amps are decent, but definitely not my favorite. I'd suggest that you go down to your local music shop and play as many amps as possible within your price range. There will probably be one that just jumps out at you. I know that Marshall would be pretty much the bottom of my list.

Similar to a Tweed sound with el84s, and a all the midrage you can handle.

The Marshall Haze combo is a new amp with a great blues and rock sound and at 40W has more than enough grunt for all but big venues.

The 2204 is a 50watt JCM 800. I got two JCM800's, I'd swap em both for a DSL50, just for the squashy'ness on the clean channel on max. There's no other Marshall that does that like the DSL50. Not the DSL100/40/20, not even the old valve rectified stuff.
The JCM 800's sound too hard edged to my ear. The SLP's are too loud to be of any use, though the mid punch is so nice it can evoke instantaneous bowel movement. The JTM45/Bluesbreakers are too trebly. I really think the DSL is the best sounding amp Marshall have ever made, though not the most reliable. Built like a Mercedes, rather than a Panzer. As long as you can work the clean channel for all your sounds and ignore the channel switching. Marshall really lost the plot with the high gain sounds. Their amps have enough gain without cascading the front end or adding diode clipping. As long as you can get it out of the volume control without getting arrested.

i agree with niki on the DLS 50, but, if it were me, and it will be very soon,
i would opt for the mesaboogie express 5:50 1x12 combo. does what your asking with ease.

I'll keep my opinions of Mesa to myself, though I'll go as far as saying they should never have entertained the idea of amp overdrive.
