Does anybody use them? One set of Elixirs is about twice the price of the John Pierce sets (11-52) that I am currently using on my acoustic.
Are they worth the price? I am not abusive to acoustic guitar strings as on electric, mostly it is just strumming on acoustic.

In the past I used various D'addarios and found them too mellow (I am loosing highs) on this guitar, Martin strings were ok, but last about two weeks of light playing so those are out too. Currently I am using only John Pierce which make my guitar sound as best as it can but they last just a bit more than Martins.

Elixirs are very highly rated by a lot of people. They're coated I believe to increase life but to be honest I've never really cared for them. I prefer Martin Marquiis.

This may have been posted here before, not sure though, but if you buy bulk and/or are looking for anything specific, this place stocks just about every type you can get for a stringed instrument

I am not a fan of them.

I am still trying to find Acoustic Strings that I really like. SO, in the meantime I use my favorite electric strings on my Acoustic guitars.

i think i have these on my Fender Sonoran, i prefer the coated strings on the acoustic because normal strings dont last too long with my hands. i recomend giving them a try if you have sweaty hands hehehe

So far I have had really good luck with them, and IMO they are worth the money. When I got my Tak the strings were about to rust off, so I ordered mine from Musicians Friend. I bought them in a bulk pack, and as a free gift, recieved a free acoustic guitar/firewood.
They sent a Rouge(sp?)00 which makes good kindling for those cold night
actually I gave it away. The strings really seem to hold up longer than others
Anyways hope this helped

Here's the bottom line: They last three times as long as regular strings and cost three times as much. So, if one likes the sound and feels that changing a string set is that much of a torment, I guess that makes them worthwhile.

Personally, I have no use for them. What I think is hilarious about them though is that they begin to shed when they start getting 'tired'.

They are all I play on both my acoustic and electrics. Everyone has an opinion on them, just like any other strings, but they work best for me of everything I have tried.

I run them on my acoustics. I pay twice as much as regular strings but they last at least 5 times as long, minimum. They last until they break. In fact that's my criteria. When one string breaks I change the set. I find they have a fairly good tone from new and it only degenerates a tiny amount with use. They are the ultimate general purpose string for acoustics, IMO. Nevertheless if I was going into the recording studio today I'd take 5 sets of Martin SP with me and change them every 40 minutes.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

 so do the cheap ones! ;)

Nah, in my opinion, Elixirs are moneymakers. I have had them in front of microphones and I'm not convinced by the sound or the quality at that price. I bought two sets a while back, with one of them the high e-string broke after a day, with the other the g. I play regularly and as with all guitars, I take care of my nuts, so that wasn't the problem. ;)
I go with 12s on the acoustic and have never had problems with any of the middle-class string types. Also I'm not sure what the coating does for tuning stability: An old string is an old string; after a while it will be necessary to tune more often.
Also I like putting on some new strings, it's like getting a new instrument!  8)
