if anyone has owned one, is warping/expanding of the metal an issue? if so, is there any way for it to be fixed?

Good question! Wouldnt mind knowing that myself. I'd imagine a mega sturdy truss goin on.

I was the owner of an early (two digit serial number) Travis Bean Artist. The neck was made of Reynolds aircraft aluminum. It was solid; no truss rod. It was a very stable instrument and held a great tune. The humbucking pickups bolted down thru the same piece of aluminum that was used for the neck. The strings ran thru the body in hardtail fashion; also going right thru the same piece of aluminum. The body on mine was a beautiful carved flame koa. The downsides were about 11 pounds of total weight and the neck alway felt cold.

The early Kramer guitars with aluminum necks tried to get around the cold feel of the neck by having wood insert running the length of the neck. In my opinion the Kramers were inferior in quality and workmanship.

I had a Travis Bean bass and if I'm not mistaken I think it was set with some relief and there wasn't a truss adjustment. I could be wrong -- it was back in the 70's you know? There was a clear finish on the neck and as it wore off my hand would be black from it. I do remember that. I also remember that I shouldn't have gotten rid of it!

It was sweet, OK. I went up the factory and met Travis Bean with a couple of my friends. All three of us bought something; one Artist, one Standard, and one bass thru a local music store. I got a special slim neck put on mine. It was silly thin at the nut. I think I still have a Travis Bean poster that TB himself rolled up and put in a tube for me.

I didn't notice the Kramer reference in your sig when I commented on the Kramers. I wasn't trying to take a shot at you there. :) I did play some Kramers back in the day. I remember the wood inserts on the neck didn't fit tight. I think they used a lot of epoxy as filler.

I have an 82 Kramer Challenger, there has been no noticeable neck warp, but I just hate the Rockinger trem. It's a squeadle machine too, and that isn't really my style. I mainly keep just cos it is so damn interesting.
