A FB friend of mine just sent me a link to a You Tube video of Steve Vai playing I Know You're Here on a triple neck Ibanez.I never paid a lot of attention to his playing before but now I know what all the buzz is about.Vai makes Malmsteen sound like a stumbling beginner and I'll be getting more of his releases in the future for sure.Sadly my computer savy is nil so I can't put up the link, just the title.

That's a guitar you can't really take on the road without a tech, can you imagine doing a setup on that o_O

Well I'll come clean. I've been a closet Vai fan for a years now.

Steve Vai - Tender Surrender

I secretly love all the over the top Big Hairy shred stuff, even though its not the sort of music I write or play (no where near good enough to shred!).

The stuff he did with Zappa is just mind bogglingly stupendous! :D

Andy

I love Steve Vai. I've been a big fan ever since I knew he existed (somewhere in the 80's). Doesn't phase me to say that he's my favorite guitar player. I've seen that video about 20-times, and can still watch it.

For some reason, I really like this one too:

Nice and raw.

Vai really has a classical sense of composing and from that video you can readily see what separates him from other shredders-he puts his heart and soul into every note.

Okay, that's pretty damn cool. I know Vai isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I think you have to respect the man's talent along with the time and dedication he's obviously given to the the art of playing guitar.

lol amen to that. i love vai. hes one of my personal guitar hero's.
i have a killer story about the first time i met Vai. i'll never forget it either.
hes a very giving person. For The Love of God is his best in my opinion.
he did a 40 day water only fast before he started to record that album. didnt break his fast until it was done. an amazing piece of work.
