Although I haven't mentioned it in the forum I have been deeply involved in a local group dedicated to preventing what would constitute basically a land rape.A guy with deep pockets from outside the province proposed a high scale subdivision of 6 architechurally designed executive houses that would infringe on dedicated park land.Town council tried to sneak through a rezoning of the parkland designation to residential so these 6 well heeled individuals could live by the seaside in their mansions.
Our commitee struck up a groundswell of support against the proposal and finally Tuesday night council declared the proposal dead in the water. Our area was just designated by National Geographic as Number 1 of the most beautiful coastal areas in the world so to put a plot of mansions on this beachside would be environmental vandalism of the highest order.

This protest was spearheaded by a small group of 5 or 6 concerned residents and grew to literally hundreds in just a few weeks. So from the smallest spark the biggest of infernos can grow.

Good for you!

I think it's sad how, even if they used "green" construction techniques, the land would be damaged badly...and when nature takes its' course and starts reclaiming the land (i.e., the cliff or coastline starts crumbling), those same homeowners would claim their "prime location" must be changed more to protect their investment.

 I just checked out the coastline on Google! Man, that is one beautiful coast.
Weather permitting, I would love to be on a Motorcycle or Motorbike as you may call it. Riding up and down that coast. Enjoy that splender.
Keep Jammin! Enjoy Life!

Hi L'il Dave,we call 'em motorcycles too.I'm one of the few in our extended family that doesn't have a bike-a lot are Harley lovers.Every summer they organize bike runs along the more scenic routes of the province-it's just spectacular to see some of the cliffs that contain not only the oldest fossils in the world but the oldest rock period that was once part of Africa.

I wish something like that happened in Lewin's Cove. There was a Provincial Park a few K's from where I grew up. When I was a kid we went there to fish, swim, ride bikes and just have fun. There was a boat launch for people to use and a huge field where families would go for picnics. There were two different camping areas, one for trailers and another for tents.

Lack of funding forced the Province to sell to a private buyer who in turn totally destroyed it. He won't even allow access to the public anymore and even went so far as to build a huge ditch to prevent anyone from entering. He owns a construction company so destroying the landscape was very easy for him and he didn't hesitate.

It's a shame to see a place that holds so many fond memories turned into nothing.

Congratulations on your victory. I wish they had been so fortunate back home.
