Ocassionally I attend an acoustic jam and one person plays a Fender FB58 Banjo. It's a 5-string model and sounds good to me.

You mentioned no musical experience, but don't let that hold you back. Everyone has to start somewhere. Google for some good beginner's books and start pickin'.
