OMG! I never heard of Alan Haynes, and I kind of just clicked on the link out of curiousity, and WOW! Totally blown away. Who is this guy and why doesn't the world know of him? I guess (looking at his recorded output) he's kind of under the radar. I spent half an hour watching him on youtube and plan to check out some more stuff today. Again, WOW!

Hi Alexander-57 my Stratacoustic was very slightly used when I bought it and I paid $300 for it with a gig bag and tuner thrown in.It's a great guitar and the Strat neck makes it real easy on the hands. When played acoustically it doesn't have the full sound of say an Epi-EJ-160-E John Lennon which is basically a dreadnaught with a single coil pickup and is rather thin sounding.Having said that it's when it's amplified is where the Stratacoustic really sings, when played through a good amp it sounds real full like a big bodied acoustic. BTW my Stratacoustic is a Squier made in China but it is still top quality.

Also, has anyone ever heard of Ronnie Baker Brooks? Saw him last summer at a bluesfest. He's good...really good.

Matt Schofield comes to mind...He's a great guitarist, although some of his songs are a little to 'jazzy' for my taste.
Also Walter Trout who I saw was mentioned earlier is a great one. I never heard of either of those guys until I started coming on this forum.

Now that's a blues player right there. Thanks for mentioning Gregor, BCB.

Yeah, that was exactly my reaction when I first discovered him too. :D

A little more about him, he's from Houston but moved to Austin in the early 1980s to join in on the blues scene there. He recorded his first album in 1984 and you won't find it or any of his others on itunes (unfortunately). The only one I could find which is readily available for download is Jim Suhler and Alan Haynes: Live at Blue Cat Blues. Jim Suhler played guitar with George Thorogood. The only way you can get his CDs is to find someone willing to give or sell you one. There are lots of bootlegs floating around (in Texas at least) too. I'm fortunate enough to play guitar with a friend of Alan's, and he hooked me up with a non-bootlegged the Live at the Big Easy CD. The Big Easy is referring to a blues club here in Houston. It lived up to what my expectations from what I've seen on youtube too. :)

One of the reasons you don't hear more about him is that he's been out with some pretty bad injuries over the years. I haven't been around long enough to know exactly when, but right when his career looked like it was taking off he tripped and fell off the side of a stage in the dark and hurt his back badly. After a few years he was back on the scene, but more recently someone mugged him outside of Antone's in Austin and broke his left hand. There probably isn't a worse thing you could do to a guitar player. But he managed to recover from that and he's as good as ever. He tends to stay in the central/east Texas area, he still lives in Austin, but he's has a large following in Europe and he does a lot of touring there. I try to catch him every time I can when he's playing in Houston.

Good morning to you guitslinger, wow man I,ve got to say you really have a thorough knowlage of guitars ,amps, etc. I,ve been reading some of your post and the info is great!
As I sayed,I was looking for a stratocoustic for quiet some time all around the different
music shops, making phone calls and all that and was kind of surprised at the lack of knowlage about this fender guitar, and this includes fender dealers who are well known around these parts, not that the didn't know of the product itself but that they didn't have any experience with it or it's qualities. I first saw it in the 06 fender catolog and was really hoping to check it out, it looked like a very easy playing guitar with a nice low
action and really nice strat neck and strat features and I prefer strats over others for playability and set up and most importantly sound and tone qualities.
Anyways I could not locate one at the time and thats how I came across my epi sst studio, and it wasn't in stock at the time so I never tried the sst but was ashured buy my man that it had very similar qualities to it and I broke the rules of commin d'fk and orderd it in sight unseen and untried, and I got to say I was not upset at all with it when I got it. The sst studio has a solid spruce top and mahog body and neck glued like a gibson of I think the late fifties, very deep into the body, very strong at the joint. It has a shadow pre amp, vol, treb & base. It came with standard 4/64 action that I set down 3/64,anyway sounds good, plays good,& price doable 41/2. But it's no strat! to ya later.

A little more on Alan Haynes, his CD "Live at the Big Easy" is my all time favorite. There is also an interview with him on You Tube where he tells about the Strat he plays most of the time. :D

I've never heard any of his music but for you to bring him up, it's gotta be good.
Any place speacial I could check out for him that you know of.

www.tabbenoit.com/

He tours off and on, but check out his website (above) for tour dates.

All of his albums are good, but "Nice & Warm" (his debut) is still my favorite.
