At the end of our HaleAmano tour in Hawaii, I had the privilege of getting a tattoo from our lead singer Ryan at the house he grew up in. It's an honor to receive such a tattoo in the presence of his Pupukea Ohana. Pupukea is in the North Shore in Oahu.

That is awesome. From what I understand about tattoos in Hawaiian culture, it is a really huge deal. It is so cool they felt like you were worthy enough of that honor.

You would be correct about that. The top portion being the sea turtle represents a migration to the island. Each ring underneath signifies the journey. The first one representing a learning of the culture. The arrows representing knowledge gained. If you notice, the arrows start in the center, and come back around. The bottom ring represents living the journey. The space in the center between the spine (the reason they don't connect) represents the idea that in all aspects, the learning, knowledge, and living process is never fully complete.

I didn't Lose my mind, I traded it for this guitar.

Wonderful tattoo and a great reason for having it. I have had a tattooed arm band for many years, representing Hindu scripture that has had a major influence on my life. There is something about the "pain" and feelings involved with the process itself that makes it a very special event. I love the story behind yours.

The only problem with a back tattoo is you have to enjoy it in the mirror

Also keep some sun block on it so the beautiful black doesn't fad. Thanks for sharing.

i agree waycool. my 2 favorite tats are on my back also. (not nearly as nice as shredd's). i forget that they are there. i think shredd could tell us more about his when he gets time. the location might have even more meaning. i'm pretty sure he'll be goin' shirtless to show that one off every chance he gets.
