Good stuff, one of SRV's favorite artists.

Lonnie Mack was one of those people who blew me away and made me realize there are actually some incredible guitarists to be found pre-Hendrix.

I was just learning The Wham a couple of weeks ago. Broke a string and everything.

Lonnie Mack is one of those guys who you can just take a look at and know ...he's lived it.
There's guys out there that many people have never heard about who were fantastic blues players and could have smoked some of the better known guys...one of which was Roy Buchanan.....who lived the blues and died by mysterious causes, ruled a suicide...the guy could burn the neck off his Tele.

I've always wondered why there still hasn't been a proper investigation done into the very very puzzling "suicide"of Roy Buchanan. There were certainly enough strange findings in his post mortem to point to the fact that he had "help" with causing his own death, including never explained cuts and bruises.I saw Roy and Pat Metheny play a double bill back in the mid 70s-it was astounding the tones he could wrench from that Tele and of course Metheny was superb also.

+1

About Lonnie Mack, I saw him and Son Seals in a place called the Chestnut Cabaret on the outskirts of the Philly area way back in the mid 80's. He was amazing. A Gibby Flying V with a Bigsby, very cool.

It was a really small place and he was really friendly. Son Seals wasn't. he had a pretty big attitude.

He handles that bigsby like no other. Lonnie Mack is everything a guitar player should be to me.

About Roy....That's what some of his friends think,I read something about one of his friends describing his body's condition, like someone mentioned above...like he might have been beaten to death.
I saw Lonnie Mack with Gregg Allman, and Jack Pearson was also playing with Gregg...it was great.

Roy supposedly had a pretty bad drinking problem and could get nasty. They said he hung himself with a shoelace or something but the lace was only about 12 inches off the ground tied to a bar on the cell door. I read an article where his wife was trying to keep him frozen until they could do an independent investigation, but I believe she ran out of money. Really sad stuff. I was a huge fan way back and his playing style was a big influence on me. When I was in in high school in the early 70's, some of my musician friends said I played a bit like him before I even heard of him. It was a little weird. Rory Gallagher was also a pretty big influence on me too back then.
