Well gang, I have been wrangled into playing at a Valentines Dinner tonight. The group consists of Drummer, Bass, Piano, Sax / Clarinet, Trumpet and me. The song lists include Shadow of Your Smile, I Left My Heart, Sunny, The Way you Look Tonight, Misty, Paper Moon and many more "standards".

Sound like fun? Well it should be except for the fact that I am way out of my element. All of the musicians are / were professionals or classically trained at some point, the Sax Player studying overseas. Now they did invite me and so knew my limitiations but I'll tell you, I am no jazz guitarist and I am very nervous. They told me to relax, stay in the background if I would like and noodle where and when I feel comfortable. :?

We have had one rehearsal and everyone sounded good...except for me. I was pretty much lost the whole time. I have done some practicing this past week but alas I would need a year of Sundays to get to the level that would even resemble a jazz player. :?

Well, there you have it. The gig is in four hours, I have the HB30 hollowbody out and the tone dialed in....look out Wes Montgomery......wish me luck....  :?

Well, made it through. Hung in there for a few songs, some I filled as I could and some I hung in the deep background. All in all I had fun and did a fairly decent job. I also learned quite a bit throughout the whole experience, especially how important it is to keep track of the measure that you are in (I am not a note reader so counting is essential).

Thanks guys for your words of encouragement...

Beaubs
