If you've every heard a marching band play it, you have a sense of the pomp and circumstance in which it should be performed either musically or vocally in terms of the way the music is arranged. She has an excellent voice and I would prefer a tad less vocal inflecting in her delivery. It's presentation should be as formal as possible. It's not to be dressed in contemporary pop vocal style as Aguilar and others of her ilk have chosen to do in the past. Leave that to the genre where it is appropriate. The National Anthem should be dressed in majesty, nothing less. Taking nothing away from Jimi and his gifts, which are unquestioned, that's one piece of music, IMHO, he should left alone. I know well the time, place, and circumstances of the society and cultural upheaval in which the performance was given. I was part of, and still remain, in many respects, part of that generation, but I feel the same now, as I did then, about his rendition of it. I wasn't ready to break with that tradition. Though I didn't support the war in Vietnam, I did support the soldiers in the field, and respect for The Anthem was something held as sacrosanct, both then and now.

I've always found their national anthem extremely moving. The way in which a piece of music composed for that purpose ought to be. Minus the legato sections, which break the mood, I can deal with his intepretation. I have a 'thing' about what might be called 'contemporary versions' of these pieces of music. Consider an Aguilara-style rendition of God Save The King for example. It just doesn't work.
She should put that kind of stuff to bed, where she belongs.

I like the dude that sings the canadian one during the hockey games.

Although I'm not American(I'm Canadian)I have always loved the Star Spangled Banner however when I first saw Jimi playing it at the Woodstock movie I filled up with tears and goosebumps-it was the most moving and passionate piece of guitar work that I've ever heard.

She's in excellent voice. I would still prefer losing the embellishments. She should sing it straightaway. At least she got the timing on the word 'banner' correct. Most do not. I remember our chorus leader in high school busting our buns to bread our bad habit on that one, learned over many years of error. I can still hear him yelling..."NO!NO!" "Not ba-a-ner-er"...it ba-ne-er" "We'll do encores until you get it right!"
