Am I the only one that thinks that almost all Gibsons sound the same? They all have double humbuckers, but the biggest diff is the hollow on solid body guitars. Any thoughts?

i have an es 135, and it sounds much different than any lp or sg i have ever played. I think it sounds much different than my freinds es 175 form the 50's or even an es 150, so to answer your question, no i donot think they all sound they same. i am jsut not a fan of the lp's i like the old hollowbodys lots, but have fender tele in my blood

eh, most strats have all single coils..... i think theres difference in most of the ones i've played..... there usually does seem to be a decent tonal difference in the higher end ones from my experiences with them, but thats just my opinion

With Gibson you have three sound options. Solid, semi-hollow and hollow.

:D When it comes to Gibson, I'll take a semi or a hollow over a solid any day of the week.

Not really. I have played many different sounding Les Pauls. I think they vary as much as a strat does especially if you throw non-gibson pickups into the mix.

I once had a couple of Gibson Les Pauls-then I discovered Hamer USA (now owned by Fender), and the Gibsons went away VERY quickly!

Hamer USA makes the best Gibsons that Gibson ever-or never-made. Bar none.

the Les Paul and SG are technically the same because when they had first released it; Fender Stratocasters were at the top and all Gibson solid bodies weren't noticed.

they tried reworking the Les Paul into a more modern shape [because Stratocasters looked AWESOME-R] and then the SG was born. the electronics and Pickups weren't different [well the wiring probably but it was still the same]

it wasn't until Eric Clapton and his SG did Gibson become famous again.
[and then Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix turned to Stratocasters... and Gibson was again down... then Jimmy Page... ]

Every Gibson I've ever played has sounded different. They have many single coil pickup guitars also. The SG and the LP are two completely different sounds also.

Well blues boy, Gibson's also come factory equipped with
single coil pickups on many models.

They Discontinued my Favorite Gibson, The Nighthawk, with it's Super-Hot slanted bridge pick up and Mini Humbucker in the Neck. Some had three pick ups with a single coil in the middle.
The Blueshawk is a pretty good P-90 vehicle, but I like the Fender TC-90 way better for that thick P-90 sound

That's somewhat due to geography. It's easier to promote product in your hometown. Gibson has a lot of exposure here in Nashville.

looks like an old burns guitar.

Seems that Gibson tend to have the habit of putting the strap button in some of the worst places ever looking at that

That's so true  I have fancy strap locks for my Nighthawk, and all my Strats have the original Strap Buttons.

Speaking of Burns (Tri Sonic Pick Ups, that is), I'd like to try a Brian May Red Special. Play some Blues or Country on it.

Don't forget about Mike Bloomfield. In my opinion he did more for the Les Paul than anybody.
