So the new Rock Band's got a Squier Strat for a controller. While it'd be cool to use the game as a vehicle to learn new songs quickly if its actually decent, I'm scared that this may just leave all the Guitar Hero fanatics saying I told you so. However, it will certainly bring a lot of new guitar players to the world. What do you guys think?

Cool idea, but I think it would have taken off much better if it had come out before the recession back when Guitar Hero was really popular. Now I think people are kind of tired of those kinds of games, plus they don't have as much spare cash to throw at stuff like video games. I do hope it does well and that we end up with more people learning to play guitar as a result. :) That's always a good thing.

Never played rock band but guitar hero is nothing like playing a guitar so I don't know how effective a game would be to attract new players once they find out it's not the same or even close. Maybe .....

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

It's actually really impressive. It's a base Squier Standard Strat with electronics in the neck to sense your finger position and a special pickup for everything else. There is an incredibly intuitive tutorial that goes over the basics of playing guitar and working you into basic fretting, chords, rhythms, and works you up from there in the pro mode. I can see it being very useful to a beginning guitar player. And the game is fun, following the tabs in essence on screen to play the songs, but $@!&, I'm just not a good enough guitar player for some of the songs. The solo in Crazy Train kicks my $@!. :|

They should have a pro level where instead of tabs they'll have sheet music flow across the screen. Now that would be hard ^^
