I've got a big problem!
For my birthday, I got a Fender Stratocaster. The trouble is, my parents, not being big in the world of music DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I WAS A LEFT HANDED GUITARIST!!!!!!! They gave me a right handed guitar. Scince I can't sell it, me and my friend decided to Jimi Hendrix Rig it, but we don't know where to begin. We know we need to turn the nut around but we're not sure if we need a new one or if it's even possible to turn it around without damaging the guitar. Any advice???

Explain the problem to your parents and having them exchange it, if possible, would be the logical thing to do. Stringing it upside down would be pretty sweet though. lol

I've tried to explain it to them but they don't want me giving it up.

That doesn't make much sense, but to each their own. Try the Strat forum would be my other suggestion...

You will need to replace the nut for a left handed one. But be prepared for a very uncomfortable experience as the volume and tone knobs are right under your arm. And the tremolo arm gets in the way too.

Jimi did it, you might be able to knock the nut out and put in backwards but I think you need to take it to a tech and get a nice new bone nut cut for it. Will only cost about 20-30 bucks and it will be money well spent. Or you can get a graphtech nut and do the job yourself.

Why won't they let you exchange it for a lefty?
