Can someone who is having these font issues please take a screen capture and post one in this thread. It would be helpful to see caps of a lengthy thread full of posts **and** the "post" screen where you compose your replies to a thread. I would also like a screen cap posted of a news article from the Fender.com News section.

What we are trying to determine is how the forum software is handling typefaces as they are rendered in your browsers. Unfortunately, Windows renders fonts in a very poor way and it allows users to change the rendering to either "Standard" or "Cleartype", the latter is best for laptops and LCD monitors. However, neither of these settings render non-System fonts very well and cause typefaces to very aliased and jagged. We've attempted to counter this problem by adding some Windows-specific code that overrides the aforementioned system settings.

To be clear, this is a Windows-specific issue and not a browser-specific issue. You literally should be seeing the same blurry text regardless of what browser you are using **or** version of IE. Even IE9 on Windows 7 suffers from this issue, albiet handinles it a little more gracefully. Luckily, Mac users are not affected by this as Mac OS automatically smooths and anti-aliases all typefaces, causing type to appear very clean.

Sorry for the lengthy response, all. Hopefully someone can quickly post up these screenshots so we can get a better feel for what's going on here in the forums. As I type this I am actually posting via IE 8 on Windows XP via Parallels. I am not seeing any buriness to the type and in fact, the type is very crisp and clean throughout the forums - almost to a fault because of the lack of font smoothing/anti-aliasing.

Thanks in advance!

My main issue is getting signed out. I always have a tab opened for the Fender Forum, I have since I joined. Every time I come back to it I have to log back in. That never happened before the upgrade.

+1 (current Internet explorer)

It is not happening everytime but at random times for me. I'll post something then I'll show logged out even when I check the keep logged in box. I'm sure it is just a growing pains gliche. It is just a nuisance.

Yes, as I was telling Chet offline, I have some theories on this one that we're going to be testing -- keep your fingers crossed.

The hanging part has been kind of the norm on this site for years now it seems. Just have to keep reloading, at night it's fine during less traffic. The upgrade was just a new paint job but the engine is the same.

Actually that's not 100% accurate -- this newest version of the site is hosted on an entirely different / new infrastructure.

Yes, the font changed up sometime yesterday. It's got thinner, fuzzy and harder to read. Mainly this is in the post area for me. I'm using XP Home and IE7. Can you look at this Brad?

Frank, try clearing your browser's cache and after you do so I'd be curious to hear if you're still experiencing this issue. (If so, per Steven's earlier post please post a screen capture here or e-mail one to me if you could.)

Not a performance issue, but slightly annoying:
Since the relaunch, when opening a hyperlink, the linked site does not open in a new tab anymore, but in the same tab. This impairs the reading pleasure when going through a thread and simply opening links for later consumption.
Can I customize this in my UCPanel? or is this generic?

Steps to reproduce:

1 - Surf to fender.com/community/forums
2 - Select a thread
3 - Find a link to another website or page within the thread content
4 - Observe browser behaviour

Note: Tested on Mozzilla Firefox & Opera on MacOS X Snow Leo.

Thanks so much :)

Yes, I noticed that immediately as well. Hint: for the time being use the right mouse button to open links in a new tab or new window until they get it sorted out.

Hold the shift key while clicking on the link to have it open in a new window or ctrl for a new tab. It'd be nice to go back to the way it was...

Another slightly annoying issue is links in the notification email, you can't view the latest post without being logged in, kinda annoying when you're away from your laptop and using the phone and you just want to see what the last post was without having to be logged in and then having to go to the last page... no big deal but it was working before the upgrade.

Today I experienced my first serious issue, the site's been great for me since the upgrade, no performance issues. Today it wouldn't keep me logged in, I was trying to reply earlier and it kept logging me out, this was with both Chrome and IE. I just tried it again and selected "Log me on automatically each visit" and that seemed to fix it.

Not sure how else we can report a problem if we're not able to login :?
