I'm thinking of buying either the Boss RC-2 or the JamMan solo looper. anyone have any advice or preferences for either? I am a complete newbie and am thinking of this purchase to play along with the drum patterns to help my timing and they both have the ability to plug in a cd or mp3 player. any advice or experiences you may share will be appreciated.

I chose the Jamman Solo for several reasons: it has decent 44.1 Khz 16bit sound, it is small and can fit on mp pedal board, it's functions can be expanded using the FS3X switch, and it runs off regular 9v power. But moreover, it has 99 onboard loops and 30 min of recording, plus the ability to expand up to 12 hours of loop recording on a SD card. I also use it to get me into grooves and enhance my tempo as a player. It does have the capability to record CD/mp3 to play along with but I rather just jam to the song off another device.

I also use it in weekly jam sessions, and can disconnect it from my main line through another amp.

BTW, it appears that Boss has released a new, updated version of the RC-2 (the RC-3) with significantly more memory. Musician's Friend lists the RC-3 for only $10 more than the RC-2. The only drawback is that it won't be available until late April. Details at:

RC-3 at MF

That very much explains why RC-2's are going on sale where I'm located.

Welcome! :)

Boss LoopStation? I know Forum User Ceri has some experience with it, and usually recommends it.

Have a good stay here! :D

Cheers
