Looks like it's the end of the line for the Guitar Hero video game franchise...

Maybe the kids who play this game will now actually pick up a real guitar.

That's like saying maybe the kids who play Madden will finally start playing in the NFL. Or maybe the kids playing Grand Theft Auto will finally start stealing cars. It's #$@*&!% fantasy. It's not stopping anyone who wants to really play and make music from doing so. All the douchebags who always bring up the real instrument argument should get over themselves.

That being said, between Power Gig and Rock Band 3, they really had to either completely overhaul the franchise and bring in real guitars, like both of the mentioned did in 2010, or give it up. I guess they gave it up.

Fact is after Activision took over Guitar Hero it become about quantity and profit rather than quality. Rock Band has become a much better game, it's not even close (The fact they have Fender guitars is no coincidence >_>).

It's about time

+1, the game actually encouraged my little 10 year old sister to play guitar. She got one for Christmas (another lefty ) And her big brother is gonna show her the ropes. So in a way the game encourages kids to play. It encouraged me to pick up guitar again

I have mixed feelings about it. Playing Guitar Hero doesn't translate into real guitar at all, but when you look at it like just a video game it's actually fairly fun. I stopped playing a year ago when I realized that by the time I finished Rock Band: The Beatles I could have actually learned some Beatles songs on real guitar. So that's what I did. But I think the game is great for exposing kids to guitar music that they may not have picked up on otherwise, and I do know people who picked up real guitar and stuck with it because of the game. So all and all I think it was a good thing.

Guitar hero has exposed more kids to guitar music than most radio stations have. If it wasn't for Guitar Hero, I'm sure that my kids would barely know bands they know after playing. It was an easy way to expose music to kids and I'm sure a lot of kids have wanted to learn how to play a real guitar from the experience.

It can get the interest of a kid more than just seeing someone on a tv. Most bands now are just power chords anyway. How hard is that? Something that sparks an interest and get kids on real instruments is a good thing to me.

I have a couple of friends who are seriously addicted to video games to the point of destroying their marriages. They live the fantasy.

That said, I agree. Playing a real guitar might be too hard for these people and that's why they want to push buttons instead. LOL The douche bag thing was a little uncalled for. Just opinions, let it go at that.

Just a few years ago , I worked at walmart
as a technician in the Tire and Lube . On my breaks I would
walk over to electronics department and play Guitar Hero
just to pass the time . While playing one day on HARD mode
I had almost mastered Smoke on the Water when a real life
guitar player behind me who was watching said " man that
song looks hard , it is alot easier than that on a real guitar"
I put the controller down and asked for a guitar for christmas
then......

Fast Forward a few years I play lead guitar for the
worship team at my church, I have written over 30 songs
have preformed at weddings, banquets a funeral and 90th
birthday party (that was fun old time hymns played Jazz style
improv with a keyboard a saxophone and me trading licks)
needless to say I think Guitar Hero was a good thing like
someone else said it showed kids who knew nothing about
classic rock (dare I say it ) what REAL MUSIC WAS ALL
ABOUT.
