ya know, i see it everywhere these days, people losely throwing around the term "hero".
so what is it that actually makes someone a "hero" exactly?
you see it every so often someone is labeled a hero and in the public eye
they themselves will say "im not a hero" and more often than not i tend to agree with them. is it when someone does their job like a cop or a fireman or even a military person
and cameras or witness's catch them in the act?
is it the average man, woman, or child, that does something unexpected of the normal joe?
what is it that actually qualifies a person to be labeled a hero?
ok im not talking about your personal hero here.
example being: "my mom is my hero. she raised us 3 kids after dad left us yadda yadda
yadda". thats a personal hero that maybe nobody else in the world would see them as such but you. that is ok if you have them in your lives and they give you strength, courage, or whatever. im talking about in the public eye kind of hero, like the press and the public realize and label to be a hero.

I think the requirements to be a hero, would be different for the individual you are asking the question too. I don't think there is one set of predetermined traits that makes a person a hero in someone else's eyes.

Cvilleira had examples that I think a lot of people would think of as heroes (at least Americans), but you ask any on of those men, they'd most likely say that they were not heroes. They just did their jobs. As prior military and I still work in a military area, most of these young men don't view themselves as heroes just doing what was needed of them at the time. Hero label comes in when others review their actions and find them heroic.

I think bravery would be on list for most, Acting when everyone else is failing too act. Actions the contradict your personal survival instincts. Yet some may think the same actions are stupid.

Just My opinion.

I say a hero is anyone that does something to improve the quality of another person/person's life, and does so selflessly. Even if that means a reduction in quality of life for said hero.

My heroes right there.

My best buddy Greg was shot 4 times canter-mass and still laid down cover fire until our entire team was able to get to cover during and IED attack/ambush. He passed away and the rest of us came home. True definition of hero right there.
He will NEVER be forgotten.

A hero can be anyone; my personal opinion of a hero is someone that rises above normal expectations to help others without regard to one’s own safety.
My hero was my brother (He has since passed away) I was drowning and he pulled me out of the creek. If he had not jumped in to pull me out, you would not be reading anything right now.

Arjay and WCJ...Greg was the embodiment of a soldier and a hero. I credit him with saving my life I pray that his family has been able to cope with his loss over the last few years.

contact them and see how they are doing tim. this will do several needed things.
1, it will answer the question of how they are coping
2, it will again show them Greg may be gone but still not gorgotten
3,and it will show them you are a good friend and that greg ment a lot
to you and you are truely greatful to him. do it, its in your heart and
on your mind for a reason tim. hell, write a song about Greg in his honor.
its in you to write it too. what better way to honor this man and to keep
his memory alive than in song tim?

I actually keep in close contact with his wife and children, don't know the rest of his family so much, but I'm gonna get some contact info and reach out and tell them how much their sacrifice of their son/brother was more than appreciated.
I've never written an entire song in his honor, but my song Still Standing is mostly a tribute to him and others like him.
