I have used Ozzy as an example of why you shouldn't use drugs (to my daughter).

I asked her, "Do you understand what he's saying when he talks?"

She replied, "No, did he have stroke or is he really old?"

"No, that's what years of drug and alcohol abuse does to you...plus, he's six years younger than Papa and two years younger than Granny. He looks and moves like he's ten years older. So you see why drugs aren't cool?"

I show her how talented and interesting a performer can be, yet they destroy themselves with the abuse. I also will play a song by an artist that has died due to drug abuse, and say, "Do you want me to take you to see him/her in concert?"

"Yeah! They're cool!"

"Oh well, too bad, they're dead because they took drugs so we can't go see them."

I started doing this when she was about four or five years old (she's now nine), and it seems to be getting the point across that it's not going to help you in life.
I can also honestly say that I have never even smoked a joint, so I lead by example that you can get wild and crazy and have fun without the drugs.

I love Ozzy's music, and I think he's an really interesting guy, but I also cringe when people celebrate him and Keef for being "survivors" through the abuse they put upon themselves.

Great video Chet, thanks for posting.I knew when he bought the flowers where he had intended to place them, just to think that I'm on the same wavelength as Ozzy is pretty scarey of course I did more than my share of mind altering chemicals and compounds in my early days.I just limit myself to the occassional spliff or margarita these days and don't miss the strung-out feeling I used to get,I guess Ozzy had his fill also-or an ultimatum from Sharon lol.

From the age of 14 until 28 I kept the Miller Brewing company and Jose Cuervo in business. I quit in 1998. Saved my marriage and life.

I suppose my liver will have caught up to what I did by the age of 75 or so. I'll start drinking again then.
