I was going to say Waylon or Merle but I'll go with Mr. J. Cash if he qualifies!

Hi Mr H -

I just had that pic emailed to me by a guy named Gary Whitehawk from Texas,
who was a friend of Waylon's. (he says...)

Love that tooled leather "Tele" and he tells me that Shooter does NOT own it and
he is checking out who actually does, but suspects it's Jessi (Colter) who is on the road in Europe right now.

Waylon all the way, man...

But Billy Joe Shaver, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Willie Nelson all have a place in my heart.

That whole crew (The Highwaymen) were pretty bad!

I'd also add Haggard, Steve Earle and maybe Townes van Zandt.

Jamie Johnson is a pretty salty modern practitioner of the Outlaw craft as well.

My vote would be for Waylon although Steve Earle could certainly qualify for outlaw status given his hell-raisin' days in the 80's.Steve also has a radio show called Outlaws on the Sirius country station.

+1

Steve puts the "O" in outlaw.

The Hag is certainly at the top of my list, with Waylon, David Allen Coe and yes Jamey Johnson in tow. Merle Haggard was my favorite country singer growing up, and he's still one of my favorites.

Here's a cool video from 1971,Waylon doing a medley, the guy playing the blue flower Tele and singing backup is one of my best friends,Billy Ray Reynolds...I've heard many tales from those days, believe me they were true outlaws.
