Next to a homemade relic job there's nothing that can devalue a guitar for resale more than having stickers or sticker residue on it.Once some of these adhesives have been on a guitar for some time not only does the finish in under fade at a different rate but the adhesives used in them can cause an irreversable chemical reaction that can ruin the finish.I've seen some pretty valuable guitars with their finishes destroyed by someone's use of stickers.
If you really want to make the guitar "your own"do it the right way and play it for years until your own wear causes the finish to fade and rub off.If you really want to go the sticker route use the ones that stick on by static cling and use no adhesives that way you can remove them from time to time to allow the wood and finish in under to "breathe" and the uneven fading won't be as severe.

He's right, my appologies Riley.

I would approach this matter like some might for getting a tattoo: Think about it for a year. If you still want it, go for it.

Until then, for the sake of all things holy, leave that axe alone 8)

Go punk, walk into your mothers room with all of the nonsensicle stickers you can find on your guitar(yes that means the the yellow walmart sticker too), i mean i dont want to see the guitars body, and start swinging the guitar around and try and hit as much $@!& as possible.

Do what your mom says!
If she's buying you the guitar then you could atleast have the decency to look after it in a way she see's fit.
I got nothing at all against stickers on guitars. But I can understand that your mom doesn't want you to deface something of value.
See her side a bit eh? Mom's have a hard time of things a lot of the time.

Niki, the brightest bulb in the Marquee, the write-est Bro in the lounge. Riley your mom is the coolest friend you have, she helped you get a guitar, my guess is she is probably right most the time because she thinks of you, more than you do perhaps. Thanks Niki. 8)

3 pages sumed up,

1, do as your mother asks as long as you live under her roof period.
2, dont put stickers on your guitar, in the long run it causes damage.
3, if you really want to personalize it either write your name on it or play the hell out of it.

lets move on now. 8)

1) if hes putting stickers on it, he most likely will not be removing them
2) hes paying for it
3) "making yours" via playing takes years

Oh that changes my response a bit, Your cash = Your guitar. Cover the thing in stickers if you want. Personally, I'd still stick with just the pickguard if you change your mind later about the stickers. That way at worst you can just change the guard.
