I've known about Buckethead for quite awhile and was wondering if yall have heard of him too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaKIbcomv70 one of his most famous songs. He's been and influence on me as well as Slash. He can not only shred but can be soulfull and bluesy :D A master of the guitar to me 8) Well thanks for looking, Izzy.

Big B is so much more than a shredder. The album "Shadows Between the Sky" is a great example of this. Here are a couple tracks to show what I mean:

I like movies with stunts and special effects, but there has to be some sort of emotion and plot to blend them together, or I'm not interested.

Buckethead is similar to the stuntman who jumps off the building with a sparked hanging out of his mouth and butt, but walks away unscathed. Amazing, difficult to master, and somewhat impressive, but if there's not any emotion, plot and passion going on between the stunts, I'm not interested.

Excellent technique. Utterly boring presentation

JMHO.

Howdy!

I'm a big fan of Buckethead.

That guy is seriously talented. Electric Tears, Population Override and Captain EO's Voyage are all outstanding albums.

I haven't heard Shadows Between the Sky yet but will make some time to check it out.

BTW: He knows his way around a set of Nunchucks too!

Cheers!

Andy

If you listened to those samples that I posted and found them to be boring, that's totally understandable.

For me on the other hand, I could listen to them all day and I find them very entertaining and emotional. Maybe I connect my own feelings to his music, but something about it touches me more than most other guitar players.

I think you'll find it worth the time and effort. I can't say enough good things about Shadows Between the Sky :!:

The first time I ever heard of Buckethead was when I saw him live by chance. I was in the process of courting my soon to be wife at the time and took her on a date to a short film festival in San Francisco. At intermission we walked out to the lounge for a drink and Buckethead was setting up. 8)

He did a set with a DJ where they were dueling back and forth, but no band or other players. He also played bass for a section of the set. I was blown away and probably paid more attention to him than I should have considering the circumstances.

Been a fan since and found that I really enjoy his softer side which IMO does not get enough attention.

I understand...and I "feel" some artists' music more than others. Believe it or not, I like (and "feel") most of Satriani's recordings (even though he's a shredder). There's probably some artists I like that you would go :?: :? ...

...just for a reference: how do you feel about players who are all emotion/guts/feel, but play with little or no technique, like Hound Dog Taylor, Seasick Steve or Jack White? I notice a lot of "technicians" have little regard for such players (and that's ok, whatever they deem "good" is "good" to them). I personally would rather listen to some guy who is ripping it up, sloppy, wild and visceral than some guy who is using perfect flawless technique with too much sterility.

But again, this is JMHO...

Good point, there are definitely some players that people can connect with in a "special" way and Buckethead is like that for me. One of the reasons I like him so much is his versatility and while I do like almost all of his music, I really gravitate towards his mellow albums.

I also like players that are all guts (and I like your description!). I actually place my favorite (not best) guitarist of all time, John Frusciante in that category. This is especially true of his solo work. Sure he can be technical and I've even heard him called a virtuoso, but there is something raw to his playing and live performances that hits me like no other player I have heard.

Now I will do my homework and go try to check out Hound Dog Taylor and Seasick Steve since I don't know of them. As usual, I'm sure I will learn/enjoy from references I find through this forum. Can you believe I never even heard the name Rory Gallagher before I found this forum? Talk about a guy that doesn't get enough credit.
