As I've mentioned, I purposely missed it - but - In 2010, The Black Eyed Peas made an estimated 81.6 million dollars from touring so somebody likes them. :?

That is an absurd amount of money. Do the Black Eyes Peas really appeal to football fans more than say, The Who?

The world is going downhill, I tell you.

Really though - they couldn't get anyone better to perform than the Black Eyed Peas? Within recent years we've been seen performances by Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, etc.

So where did this garbage come from?

Anyway, my TV was muted for the entire half time, save for a few curious moments when Slash came on - but even that was completely butchered. Way to go "Fergie".

Overall a major disappointment. The game was alright, though.

it all ties into what the good doc and i are talking about.

yeah but they themselves didnt get anything close to that.
again it all stems back to what we are saying above.
put it to you this way, if fergie wasnt there they wouldnt have sold that much.
its not her talents or her beauty either.

Some of the more memorable SB half-time shows that I remember are :

1972 - Ella Fitzgerald and the tribute to Louis Armstrong
1997 - The Blues Brothers started the set with "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love," and "Soul Man." James Brown continued with "I Got You (I Feel Good)" followed by ZZ Top. The show ended with all performers joining together on "Gimme Some Lovin'"
1998 - Tribute to Motown's 40th Anniversary
2009 - Springsteen with the extended E-Street Band
2010 - The Who

I guess '05 (Macca) and '06 (Stones) were okay too.

slash is highly overrated, i believe hes a great solo writer, not necessarily a great guitarist, plus it seems like hes only focused on becoming a legend like jeff beck and tries way too hard

'Will be kind and cut them a lot of slack, since slinging dirt seems to be today's order of things.

Christina...stupid, insulting, unprofessional. Out of town on a rail.

Halftime show, Bevis and Butthead; "This halftime show sucked more than any halftime show that ever sucked before, sucked."

Anyone notice most of the lights on the right side of the "LOVE" "V" were out?

The idea of Slash becoming a legend like Jeff Beck is about as preposterous as Liberace eclipsing the sun that was Fredric Chopin, his inspiration.

slash already is a legend in his own rights. he is the one that kept gibson in the lime light through the 80's and a good bit of the 90's.
will he be as big as jeff beck, probably not? but he will go down in the history books a few pages behind him.

I didn't want to go there but since you opened the door you draw attention to the fact that that precise interpretation seems to be becoming the rule rather than the exception these days. :?

doc i have a feeling if you and i open up a discussion on here about how we really feel,
you and i would both be band so quick it would shut the site down for 24 hrs while everybody else tries to figure out what exactly happened.
yes it is becoming the rule and i dont honestly care for it either.

It's not a great mystery, and I don't know that much more has to be made of it. The crux of it is that you and I are of the opinion that The National Anthem should be about as open to interpretation as Giacomo Puccini's "Madama Butterfly". i.e., there is a way it is to be sung regardless of staging. There is a dignity about it which should be respected and it's original form should not be altered. Contemporary vocalists seemed to feel that it is their imprimature to do so. You and I strongly disagree. :?

i dont think we disagree at all. i think its should be held in high honor to even be asked to sing our national anthem. it should be taken seriously and sung with respect and with high reguard to what the song means to our people, country, and those that died to keep our country free. over and over again yr after yr the anthem gets butchered a little more and a little more. pretty soon they will want to change the words because its not PC or even worse they will ask us to stop singing it altogether.
thats where its headed. watch and see.

My point was that you and I disagree with those who feel that The National Anthem is open to interpretation. Sorry for the confusion in the wording.
