I'm thinking about replacing the bridge on my Telecaster to this vintage bridge setup i found on amazon.com I just have a couple of questions (keep in mind, I know nothing about bridges or hardware)

1. after looking at the picture, how would this work? Where do the strings come out if it only has 3 saddles?

2. What is the point of the two sides on the bridge? Does it give the telecaster a different sound?

on the 3-saddle bridge the saddles are T-shaped so the strings come up on either side of the "stem" and over the saddles. no real advantage to the vintage saddles... they just make adjusting the intonation a little less accurate.

The sides were where the original ashtray bridge/pup cover attached.
