I just started using the 347 rounded teardrop picks recently, and after years of playing Jazz III's, small teardrops of many different manufacturers and other's, I think I have finallly found my pick. I started with the Fender celluloid one's, but recently got a pack of the D'andrea Delrex .88mm one's, and like these a little better as they are more grippy. These are the same one's that Warren Haynes uses now as Fender doesn't make the abalone 347's anymore that he used to use. It doesn't seem like a lot of people use this shape, but after trying these I can't figure out why. Length wise and width wise, they are right between a Jazz III and a 351 shape pick, and have a slightly rounder tip, which really glides over the strings, without getting hung up, which is great if you flatpick like I do. Really great for rhythm as well as lead's. Does anyone else here on the forum use these?

I tried somehing like that a few years back.

I think it was a Gibson or a larger Moshay pick back in the early 90s

I've seen that a lot of the older Gibson picks are in this 347 large teardrop shape. The Gibson medium pick in the lower left of that picture is this shape.

I have tried the small ones in the past and didn’t like it, then tried the larger similar shaped ones like the MOSHER, but they were pricy. So I went back to the traditional shaped ones. For flat picking I use the side of the picks. Thus, I get a more thumping fat sound vs. the tip where I get a little spank sound. It took about 3 days to get comfortable with holding the pick by it’s side, and now I can’t go back to the traditional method. I find it easier to grip it sideways (more mass to hold and the fingers are closer to the strings).

I pick pretty much the same way. I tried the small 358 size teardrop picks and liked them for single line's, but felt they were too small for strumming chords. That Guild thin pick around the center of that picture is also the 347 large teardrop shape. The thing I like the most about this shape is the rounder tip compared to a standard 351 shape. A lot of guy's say a pointed pick is better for lead playing, but I think the rounded tip glides over the strings much easier, and seems to produce a warmer tone as well, if that is what you are going for.
