Yes you do need to unscrew the pick guard and carefully move the pickguard towards the bridge to allow access.
But by loosening the neck screws and tilting, the neck is no longer flush and tight in the pocket, thus when you torque on the truss rod to turn it, you will put severe twisting pressure on the neck and the only thing resisting that twisting will be the screw holes in the neck.

Mad? No, but I'm often called "angry."

I didn't say tilt the neck, I said lift it out of the pocket. A 57 Reissue design does not provide adequate access to the nut while installed in the body. I think you're over complicating the process, but to each their own level of comfortability.

I'm pretty old school and a geezer and yes, we loosen the neck and lift it out of the pocket to get better access to the slot at the end of the truss rod. It puts no severe twist or pressure on anything at the neck at all. If the rod is that hard to turn, somethings seriously wrong. Every guitar repair book I own tells you to do it this way to avoid damaging the body of the guitar if the adjustment is at the heel of the neck. The strings need to be loosened.

You need skill and patience to adjust this type of neck. Using a good tech is a great idea.

I have always done it the way that James Roy suggests. It has always worked well, and I have never encountered any problems with it! Works for both Stratocaster and Telecaster. Only one you don't need to pull the neck, just the pickguard, is an Esquire, since it doesn't have a pickup in the way!

Apparantly not, though is it a prerequisite for participation here?

I say, get the hammer; if that doesn't work, get a bigger one!!

Well, I guess I might as well throw my two cents in:
Depending on the severity of the warp and/or the lack of cooperation from the truss rod, I've loosened many a neck from the body and also on many occasions have outright taken necks off to correct the problem. I have never had a loosed neck twist on me. Rather, the warps were corrected, the necks reinstalled just fine and the guitars were restored to optimum playing condition with no heretofore adverse affects.

I've been searching around the internet trying to uncover how and where you can get a custom built electric guitar. I extremely like John Mayers Crashocaster and would like to get a exact replica. If anyone could please post a comment that leads myself in the right direction, Ill be so ever pleased. Thank You!

Ed Roman makes replica Eric Clapton Crashocaster's cost depends on the model you want them to make it off of. They will even use one of your exiting guitar.

You need a custom luthier for that type of instrument. This fellow does some outstanding work and built me a very fine guitar to my specifications......

+1 on Ron Kirn, I have one of his Barnbusters (between the Tele and the blue 335 in my sig photo) and the sustain and pickups are just amazing. He went through some medical issues a few months back, so I'm not sure if he is back to building; check the website.
