Re Waylon Jennings:Waylon was supposed to be on that fateful flight but at the last minute gave up his seat for a very tired Buddy Holly. That selfless gesture changed the path of Rock and Roll.

Not exactly,Buddy chartered the flight for himself,Waylon and Tommy Allsup,...Tommy and Waylon gave up their seats for The Bopper and Richie.
The reason they were supposed to fly was the buses that they were traveling on were freezing up and had no heat and they wanted to get to a hotel in the next town and get some rest, the drummer had already gotten frostbite on a previous bus ride.
Tommy's wallet was in the plane with some of his gear because he gave up his seat at the last minute and when they were trying to ID the bodies, they found his wallet and reported him as a casualty. After the tour was over Waylon said he left the '59 Fender bass in a locker in a bus terminal and just walked away.
The last thing Buddy and Waylon said to each other was,Buddy told Waylon,"I hope your old bus freezes up"...and Waylon said "I hope your damn old plane crashes."
They were just picking at each other but Waylon said that it haunted him for a long time.
