Dang, Guys...

I've been waiting all day for someone to make this post.

What happened 52 years ago today?

Hint - It was the day the music died...

RIP Buddy Holly

Imagine how quickly the gentleman from that photo would get mugged for his 50's strat in today's day and age.

Look like it would be pretty easy :D

Is that a Capo just behind the nut?
I wounder if he had it there for a quick change of key, or if he had it there for tone reasons only known to him?

They're classic songwriters, come on-Peggy Sue, La Bamaba, just great old school stuff.

...and if you look closely, that cool cat playing the Fender Precision Bass is none other than Mr. Waylon Jennings.

Buddy Holley was one of the first rock musicians to embrace the Stratocaster. He also was one of the first "rock stars" to produce his own (and other people's) records. He was able to write a rocker like "Peggy Sue" or "That'll Be The Day" and then turn around and record a string laden love ballad like "True Love Ways".
Plus, he was from Texas, dammit! 8)

Richie Valens was also one of the early proponents of the Stratocaster. He was also one of the first Mexican-American rock stars to gain any acceptance. One of the things the movie didn't fully explain was the fact that he was only 17 when he died.

JP Richardson (the Big Bopper) was a DJ, songwriter, record producer, singer/performer and talent scout. Today, he would be the white Jay-Z.

Actually, Buddy was quite a Hades-raiser in his day, and although he wasn't a brawler, could supposedly take care of himself pretty well.

For some pretty good insight to Buddy's personality, read "Waylon--an Autobiography" by the esteemed Mr. Jennings (duh). There's a couple of chapters about their exploits from west Texas to New York City to Clear Lake and all points in between.

Re Waylon Jennings:Waylon was supposed to be on that fateful flight but at the last minute gave up his seat for a very tired Buddy Holly. That selfless gesture changed the path of Rock and Roll.

Yes, that's how "That'll be the day" was played, in 'A' I believe.
