i am having a serious hum issue with my pedalboard. any help you can give would be appreciated.

the board:
gator gbone with power supply
tc electronics tuner
behringer compressor
behringer trem
behringer chorus
line 6 crunchtone

guitar- 09 mim hss strat
amp-peavey 110 envoy- 1 month old

individually, there is no hum from each pedal. as soon as i put them together, using 6" cables and the gator power supply. i get major hum, even at low volume

what should i look for? i am using good guitar cables that have no hum when the guitar is plugged directly in.

is it possible that the pedal cables are causing it? or rhe power supply?

i have been playing around with this for 2 hours, and i am frustrated. any help is welcome

yep its possible the cable are the evil behind the hum, could be the power supply too.
ok do this. play the board. now remove one pedal at a time playing inbetween until the hum goes away. take the last pedal you removed after the hum goes away and set it aside. now put all the other pedals back in the chain. is there still hum?

hum....... how many pedals are we dealing with here?
try different cables if you have them? try a different wall outlet for the power supply as well.

gottcha. was just brainstorming and forgot.
did you try any of the above post of mine?
line up the effects and start replacing the cables 1 at a time.
this has got to be simple. :?

Just start the elimination round... start subtracting 1 pedal at a time, also try putting the crunchline just after the compressor, then your modulators

What was the last effect/cable you added prior to the noise? Or is this a whole new setup of effects?

Also, check the G-bus power supply to see if any 9v effects are hooked up to the 18v and to see if all the voltages are connected properly.

A; Take a look at your powersupply. Note what the maximum current output is, (usually given in milliamps MA).
B; Add up the current draw from each pedal. (around 300MA each max in my experience).

If B is greater than A, then your powersupply is under powered which can cause problems.

Other than that, everyone elses suggestion is the way to go. It could also be a noisy pedal too. I've just had a ancient delay's output socket die on me that made a terrible amount of noise for weeks before it went.

CABLES!

Check out both your patch cables and your regular leads.

Do you get hum no matter where you plug your pedalboard in? It could be a slowly dying wall socket or just a "dirty room". Us crazy Americans with our 60 cycle hum...

Also, you might invest in a good noise suppressor. I have an ISP Decimator G String (great) and previously owned a Rocktron HUSH pedal (good) and I've heard good things about the MXR/Custom Audio noise gate.

But I have a few more pedals on my board, though.

problem solved- or at least i hope so  you never know...

i went through, disconnecting and reconnecting, and it came down to 1 thing- the line 6 crunchtone. as soon as i removed it and replaced it with my old ibanez ts7, all is well-no hum. i even tried a separate power supply for the l6, with all others connected to the gator chain. still noisy, even with noise gate on the pedal turned on

just curious- any theories on the l6? if i hook up that pedal only, it works fine- just not in the chain

thanks for all the great advice- fred

Could be a bad socket, or a million other things. It could just be that the pedal is dying. They are not made to last forever these days.

the pedal only has about 6 hours of use on it.

i have a separate wall wart that i use on it . when i use just the crunchtone, it works great. when i put it in the chain, it hums like crazy.

apparently it doesn't play well with others

Do you have the line 6 at the beginning of the chain?, it could be having some problems if your other pedals are "leaking" True bypass aint always so...

Im sure you tried this but... check the pedal settings.. does it hum on all settings??? Blues, pop, crunch... or with the gate on/off..

my chain runsas follows: guitar into tuner into compressor into distortion into chorus into trem into amp

what i have now is working fine, so i am not going to worry. probably just give the line 6 to my brother.
