Most of you may recall that one of my daughter's best friends and his girlfriend (Shane andLiza)were hit by a drunk driver in early December and Shane later died just a couple of days before Christmas.Yesterday the driver was finally charged and was arraigned in court this morning and he got out on $20,000 bail. The courtroom was filled with family and friends of Shane and Liza.To show his lack of remorse and total lack of sympathy for the families the S.O.B. had the audacity to smirk at those family members as he left the courtroom. There are people thnking that he may not be around for his day in court and that it won't be his doing. He had the gall during Christmas to go into a local club where Shane and his friends always went and needless to say a lot of them were there when he showed up.The bartender told him that if he valued his own life more than he valued Shane's he would be wise to leave.I have a funny feeling that this guy's days are numbered as he has showed total disregard for the families affected and nothing but contempt for the townspeople.

as someone who has been hit by a drunk driver- and witnessed a horrific accident by a drunk driver, stories like this make my blood boil

in both cases i was involved in, the drivers definitely had an attitude problem- they just don't get it.

i hope this guy gets the book thrown at him :x

Perhaps this reeking piece of maggot meat will assume room temperature before his trial begins, thus sparing all involved the agony of reliving the events in open court and saving the taxpayers countless untold thousands of dollars in billable hours for lawyers......

Gotta love 'justice' huh? That's pretty sad. The person/persons who's life was lost have no chance of living, why should the person responsible for the death be allowed to walk free? I thought bail was more or less for cases where a lot of evidence is circumstantial. Seems like the case (assuming he's being charged with negligent homicide, or vehicular manslaughter or something along those lines) is pretty cut and dry. I really hope justice is served, whether through the court or otherwise. Nobody that takes a life based on intent or just plain lack of respect for the law deserves to walk the streets until they have paid their sentence.
I hope the cocky smirk gets knocked off of his face.

Perhaps he will ultimately get a "dominant" cellmate and have many interesting experiences and time to realize the enormity of his deed and seriously repent and spend the rest of his life trying to make amends.

Or maybe something else will happen. That pesky third law of motion and laws of karma....

Yeah, hopefully he gets a 300 pound cellmate named Bubba that has lost someone due to a drunk driver. Should be an "eventful" prison stay.

That's a pretty crappy thing for you to have to go through Guitslinger.

Sorry for your pain. :(

I feel your pain! My best friend got hit by a drunk driver last Sat night in Nashville. Thankfully neither she nor her 13 year old daughter were badly hurt. Her car was totaled. The woman who did this bailed out in 4 HOURS!!!

Her income has fallen over last 20 years as the studio business has died in Music City. She is one of those unknown heroes who works behind the scenes so we can make music. Say a prayer for her

Throughout history alcohol related crimes do not carry tough sentences. Drunk drivers can be lawyers, businessmen, teachers, housewives, congressmen and the like. Makes you wonder. In Oregon, first time DUII offenders can sign up for classes and after completing them, the arrest is taken off their driving record. A slap on the wrist for, in my opinion, a premeditated crime.

It is no different than loading a gun and firing into a neighborhood. You might hit someone with the bullet, you might not. But you loaded the gun and fired it, knowing the risk that you might hit someone.

To the original poster, I am sorry you are going through this...

We deal with them the right way in Oklahoma. Last case I remember, a 38 year old woman ran over two people on bikes killing both. Tried to take off and was run off the highway shoulder by other drivers. She was on probation for a previous DUI. Daddy had her bailed out within 24 hours. They retained a high profile lawyer and kept the case on hold for 18 months, hoping to let the memory of the act die down. Trial day came and the jury gave her 45 years. Here you do 85% of your sentence before you can see the parole board. Shes 38 + 38 years day for day. Out you pop at 76...... Nothing will bring the victims back but we all feel justice was done. Don't drink and kill in Oklahoma. Guitslinger, hopefully the scum there will get what he deserves. Mojo...............Mike

I don't think so Tim.....

(Sorry, I couldn't resist)

Bail is given to a suspect who is charged with a crime before the trial instead of holding them in jail.
It is a guarantee that you will indeed show up for the trail.
The amount of the bail is determined by many factors, how long this person has lived in the community, if they own property, there criminal record (If any) if they have property in another state or country.

Basically, how much of a flight risk are you, how likely are you to show up at the trail.
The reasons for this is to relieve overcrowding in the jails for persons awaiting trial, it lets the accused help prepare a defense and to continue there employment.
If the judge thought the suspect was a flight risk, he could have denied bail and held him bound over for trial.
