While I do agree to some extent that good music is dead but what about bands like the goo goo dolls, Collective Soul, Matchbox 20, etc? They still rock!

I don't think I've heard anything new from any of those bands in a while. I never cared for any of them, except for a few Collective Soul tunes.

Those bands have always been terrible. There's plenty of bullshit mainstream, corporate rock out there for you if that's what you are into.

I guess I thought they split quite awhile ago... Jack has had various projects, and Meg, Well... nuf said about her.

I think We will see Jack morph into something pretty cool, I say that without even owning one tune he has done or been involved with.

There are plenty of good rock bands left. For example Biffy Clyro, Kings of Leon and Muse (though their last album wasn't all that good). And there is also the rock/blues band The Black Keys and some indie artist worth checking like Ida Maria and Florence and the Machines.

So quit your whining there is plenty of good rock and roll around if you look hard enough. Just don't count on MTV to play it for you.

There are lots of good bands and talented musicians out there, unfortunately, none of them are getting played on FM radio. That's the fault of the recording industry for not promoting the right artists. It's also the fault of the radio industry for being completely afraid to take chances with stations' playlists. Music fans have to do a lot more homework these days in order to discover good new bands.

If you want to explore some music and buy it directly from the artist you can do it on this site: http://www.gogoyoko.com
It is kind of community side where you can listen and buy music.

Good sites to check out new music:

http://pitchfork.com/

http://www.pandora.com/#/

http://www.myspace.com/music

Satellite radio is also a pretty good place to check out newer artists and other acts that don't get exposure on FM.

My sentiments exactly.
And I'd recommend spotify to anyone who doesn't already have it.

Anything you hear about on the radio or TV is just the last dying breaths of the mainstream-it's trash. No one needs it. But I guarantee you go to a few local shows, find a internet community that specializes in the music you like and you will be exposed to a ton of great music you would never have known was out there.

You want good hip hop, try Rhymesayers: http://www.rhymesayers.com/

Or Doomtree: http://www.doomtree.net
there is no real anger or angst, all bands do nowadays is rip off the smiths and try to sound suffisticated about it, theres no identity or uniqueness, were living in a post 9/11 America where its not accepted to be angry. Metal is fantasy anger, whats left of hardcore is too masculine, Rap ditched the streets for the mansion and opulenity, nothing is real, its all processed. Music is dying. Somethin better happen. Im serious, ill quit life and go be a farmer deeper south.

I have tried to give each of these groups/artists a chance, but sorry, i just can't say that anything i heard from them was "good" in the sense that I ever wanted to listen to it again the same way the "good" groups/artists of the past still inspire me to listen to their recording over and over.
