Jeff makes a point, particularly with respect to the paid intern. It is funny and sad at the same time. Ever see Jay Leno interviewing people on the street and asking them where points on the globe can be found? I bet more people know where Kim Kardasian keeps her toilet paper than where Egypt is located or, better yet, in which direction the Nile Riverflows.

Pathetic.

Hate to bust your bubble Nonnig but Fox News is the only agency exposing whats really going on - from Egypt to the Obama administration. Not that affects you being from Iceland, but every other news broadcasting station and newspaper here is not telling us the truth. At least Fox is trying.

Hate to bust your bubble but this should tell you something about how FOX News fact checks their news. If they can't find where Egypt is on a map, then how are they fact checking everything else they are reporting. But I am getting off topic and don't want to turn this into a political topic, so how about to agree on disagreeing  .

Most likely done by some intern who is representative to what our American education system has become in the last 30 years. What was High School teachings in the 50's to 70's is now College teachings.
What we need to watch for is that groups in Egypt try to bring in Sharia law and we should trust the Muslim Brotherhood at all!!!!
Now if only Bama's would have supported the people of Iran to over throw that little Muslim nut running that country. He had little to say and that country is ripe for overthrow.

This could be the answer to all the Worlds troubles
Crop rotation
Varying from year to year what is grown on a particular piece of land. This practice helps to avoid the build-up of pests and diseases specific to a particular crop. One crop may also put back into the soil nutrients taken out by another.
so next year I vote UK swap with Hawaii :) pack the cases Ethel

Interesting concept. Tried in Afghanistan, you know. Problem?? Potatoes don't do as well in the opium/herion market as do poppies.

It was pretty funny, but having been involved in live productions, these types of errors happen all the time. It has less to do with data / fact checking than it does of some poor intern in the back room getting handed a dozen slides and told to make it go on line live in 3-2-1 now.

Not a fact checking error necessarily. Most likely an over worked under paid intern in the back office trying to juggle 25 different requests from 30 different people all at the same time.

Jeff

jeff hits the nail on the head. The real question is, would this topic have been made if say the Clinton News Network or the MicroSoft No Black Commentators network had made the same error?

I'm with Nonni: I'd be laughing at anyone who made that error. I am right this second.

Put a slide together in three seconds? A major news broadcaster doesn't have a slide of the Middle East ready to go? C'mon...

Cheers - C

I don't see any room for conservative vs. liberal politics on this one. Destabilization in Egypt could easily spread throughout the region, cost thousands of lives and bring down world economies. It's too big of an issue to be taking parting shots at Fox, Obama, CNN or Rush. Serious business going on over there.

I agree with you. With this post I am not trying to make fun of the things that are happening in Egypt and Tunis. I just making a joke about the fact that us modern people rely on news agencies for informations on what's happening in the world, and even they can make silly mistakes like these.
And I like where your head is. Some people might say that this is a joke on the expence of the American school system. Even some of my co-workes made some jokes today, one saying: "Many Americans don't even know where Canada is on the map." Everybody who hated that comment say: "Thank you Jay Leno."
I am not saying that I can point out every country there is on a map (especially some of the Former Soviet unions ending on -stan) but this is Egypt we are talking about... you know one of the, if not "the", oldest civilisation (US: civilization) (yes I used a dictionary) on earth, pyramids and the River Nile. And as has been mentioned in this post Moses led the Jewish out of Egypt.
And I would have posted this also if it came from of CNN, MSNBC, BBC News or Guardian, this stuff is plain funny no matter who made it.

That would be equally funny if it were CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, ESPN, HBO or any other network.

The joke here is not the network(although they are a joke as well) rather the map error.

fair enough, so the next time MSNBC or CNN makes an error like this, we should all expect a post on it i assume? and we ALL know that those networks make their fair share of errors as well.
