Drifting snow has gripped the Chicagoland area and it is snowing still.

Eighteen inches new snow since 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. Drifts to seven feet and winds high enough to generate 25-foot waves on Lake Michigan and rip part of the roof off Wrigley Field. This is serious.

Even the Jeep in 4WD does not have a prayer of getting out of the garage, let alone anywhere on the roads.

Gonna have another cuppa joe and tune up a guitar.

Is there a Blues song yet, about "too much fogging snow?"

It looks like Toronto dodged the bullet too. Environment Canada issued storm warning only we have about 15cm over night. Not to bad, I am sick with a flu so no work for me today anyway.

Golf road a main thoroughfare is desolate this morning, not a vehicle in sight. the snow is waist high the drifts a little higher. no plan yet but I should think of something. a cup of tea will help. 8)

I'm south of Buffalo,NY and they said freezing rain, then 5-7 inches of snow, canceled the kids school Tuesday night for Wensday, and so far all rain and I think we now have less snow on the ground than we had yesterday....but there is still about 2 1/2 feet on the ground. Come on early spring!!!!!!!!!

Theres a snowdrift in the backyard that reaches the top of the fence.

The fence is 5 feet tall...

Snow stopped in metro, temps dropping midafternoon.

Did work emails, hung a cornice for spouse, dug out a path for the dog to go on excretion micro-journies.

Street still not plowed. Too deep to get Jeep with big tires out of garage.

Tune and play a wee bit....

This is the third day in as many weeks that I banged out of the office and college due to mainly travel related issues. Checked my driveway and street front at 4:30 am, listened to the traffic reports, highlighting the 83 accidents in my county which occurred overnight, and went back to bed until 10:30. It's 2:40 pm presently and my community's road crews have first come through with heavy equipment to shave the roads and the driveways in that the temps are near 40 presently, but will dive again tonite. The Long Island Railroad which is my ticket to my 45 mile trip to Manhattan went on a weekend schedule and there were videos of people packing themselves into these trains like cattle for the good 60 min+ ride. I've done that, standing, once or twice, but no more.

I've grown tired of the 'don't drive if you don't have to, take mass transit (barf!!), or if do drive be extremely careful' attitude that prevails. You don't get any medals for breaking your back and becoming paralyzed for life, or worse, attempting to get to work in weather which any sensible person should remain out of, and which you find too many 'highway heroes' attempting to prove their invulnerability in, simply because they're driving some vehicle touted by a TV commercial with Sam Elliot's manly voiceover that also sells them their beer Medals are like hemorrhoids, sooner or later, every $@!&#*% gets one. . I prefer to be out of their way.

Population densities have changed in the NY Metro area in the last 60 years and its time some responsible elected officials had the cojones to publicly create a weather state of emergency declaration which requires that everyone stay put until the intrastructure can be set right again. This because the systems have proved themselves vulnerable, time and time again, and people who have found themselves in dire straits, despite their good intentions, are too often left to their own devices, because public agencies are unable to come to their aid. The only individuals who should be out and about are those who are involved in public safety, health, and infrastructure maintenance related activities. Everyone else should be permitted to go back to bed.

I survived a rollover trying to make it home from the office in weather like this about thirty years ago. I'll keep my remaining eight lives...Thank you!

And that's my two cents.....

Thanks. I get really pissed days like this when I'm watching news coverage of NYC's mayor out on Staten Island dicking around with some ground hog which has already bitten him once before, as if its a business as usual day, whilst the rest of the region is off the road, up on a sidewalk, wrapped around a tree. You should see the convoy of black vans with emergency lights that this guy trucks around town in. Not your usual and customary everyman's everyday means of transportation, that.
