A fue days ago someone posted a comment about folks coming into a guitar store and acting like they were in a toy store. My question is if it's not a toy store, what is it ? Maybe a candy store. I for one get a lump in my throat and get all tingly every time I go into one and I'm 67 years old . I have been playing first one old guitar after another all my life and plan to get a new one soon, its already on order, (cant wait). Maybe someone can tell me how to act when I go in to pick it up. Ma by with one hand tied behind my back, or with tape over my mouth or ma by even blindfolded, not likely! There are somethings in life that are cool and guitars, girls, cars and good whiskey are all on the list.if those things don't bring out the kid in you, you must be dead. Quite often one of my grand kids and I visit our local music store together and each time wee act silly and Handel the merchandise and usually spend money. I think if the aforementioned shop keeper wants to continue in business maybe he shold change his attitude and Litton up a little bit. Bang on my friends and thanks for listoning. ----Danny,

Hey Danny,
Welcome to the forum. I still get that same feeling when I walk into a music store as I did back in 1964. The stores want you to feel that way to entice you to buy something. They are hoping it will be a guitar or amp or some other high end item. I know it works on me. What guitar did you order? When you get it post some pictures.

I still get excited going in just to buy strings and picks but, unless I really plan on buying a new guitar I leave them on the rack. I might get one down to feel the weight or the neck profile but I am extremely careful with them, after all the owners are there to make money.

I think most of the complaints about behavior are directed toward kids who go into generally larger chain stores and sit all day playing the merchandise with no respect to the instrument and ultimately damaging it. Then, the store expects full price for a damaged guitar. If I buy a guitar it had better be perfect when I get it home. I should have the unforunate honor of putting the first scratch on it.

As far as you acting when you pick up your guitar; do a cartwheel, backflip, heck do a whole gymnastic routine worthy of an olympic gold medal (as long as the store has the room) just don't damage the other merchandise. You should be excited it's a new guitar just for you after all.

the vacuum store is a lot like the guitar store. but they do not attract the same clientele as the guitar store, cause if they did, the vacuum store would be loaded with a bunch of broke guys who just wanted to run the new vacuums.

Hey Danny, welcome to arguably the hippest, most gregarious musicians' lounge in this and neighbouring arms of the galactic spiral.

Yup, exactly share your feelings about music (and hobby and book) stores. Definitely toy stores. Just let fly and have fun in them.

Personally, 'am kind of bummed upon being in a local big box music store when some scruffy high schooler does NOT play a few riffs, too loud, not perfectly. But when they do, they play with honest, un-selfconscious JOY!

And re age...

..."How old would you BE, if you did not know how old you ARE?
