Hey, Im tried to find some Fender Rock N Roll strings but was severely disappointed when I learned they are no longer made, but I ventured and found these http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-150R ... 1501368.gc and then I found out he also had used Ernie Ball http://www.ernieball.com/products/categ ... re-Nickel# so which is better for that Hendrix tone, Im trying to get as close to his strings as possible.

I've been using the Fender 150's for a while now and really like them.

I'm a dedicated Hendrix fanatic and have played in many cover bands doing Hendrix covers.I have tried to get as close as I can to the Hendrix tone and vibe-right down to turning a lefty Strat right hand to better capture every nuance of his playing.I have always used D'Addario 8-38s as they allow for the extreme bends like Jimi did and also when pre-stretched don't go out of tune through very agressive vibrato use.Along with my Marshalls and accumulation of effects like Jimi used I can get a very good facsimile of Jimi's tone-now if I could only create the magic that he could with his hands-of course nobody ever will. The D'Addario strings are the very best I've tried for tone and performance doing Jimi tributes, and I've tried many different brands over the decades.

I've always used the .008-.038 D'Addario EXL-130 Extra-Super Light strings as they allow me to bend from an A on the 14th fret of the G string right up to a D and stay perfectly in tune.Understandably when playing Hendrix covers along with heavy bends you use the whammy agressively too and they also stay intune after giving the whammy a wild workout.A lot of people say that your tone suffers with super light gauge strings but bear in mind that Billy Gibbons,Tony Iommi,John Lennon and Jimi used super light gauge strings and nobody ever accused either of them for having poor tone.BTW a lot of people have taken it for granted that I use heavy strings because I can get great sustain and real full sound but they're taken aback when they see that I use "wimpy"strings.

You could certainly use the super lights for grunge and punk.I find them great for all genres and I really pound the strings in a Pete Townshend fashion and can't recall ever breaking one.BTW I've tried the Ernie Balls several times over the years when D'Addarios weren't available and found that they went dead fairly quickly and didn't hold their tuning as well as the D'Addarios.

I don't think he used stainless steel strings, but give them a try and see how close you get to his sound.
