I read somewhere on a form sometime back that if you place a .100pf capacitor in the wiring of a single coil guitar that it would no longer have 60hz hum. If this is true where would you place it or is this just a lot of bull?
Thanks

.100pf?
As in a tenth of a Pico-Farad?
Like 1x10 to the power of -13 farads?
I think any difference that would make would be fairly negligible.

All that will do is filter out certain frequencies which in turn, will suppress certain hisses and hums. In reality, it serves no constructive nor practical purpose.

While we're on topic, what does a capacitor actually do in a guitar? Because to my mind capacitors are for storing energy, and use in timing circuits. I know they're used with the tone pot, but how does it actually work?

In the same way a capacitor stores electrons and stops them flowing, I can only presume it stops treble frequencies passing too.

Not a bad read.

Right. Based on the value of the capacitor, it grabs certain treble frequencies and bleeds them off to ground.

Bah 14", a smattering, nothing more. I jest

Listen if things get that bad, tell homeland security that some mad brit is coming over to carry you piggyback to the hospital. That he's not a threat to national security, just bloody determined. And he'll be leaving as soon as he's got you where you need to be.

Chin up mate. Chin up and set firm!
