My very first electric guitar was a Hondo. It was a black imitation Les Paul I picked up used for less than $100 back in the early '90s. I really liked it at the time and thought it played and sounded pretty decent (of course I never heard it through anything other than a little 10 watt practice amp!). From my experience, Hondos seem to be pretty good starter guitars...

My first electric was a silver/black Hondo Strat-style guitar (1984). It was OK but needed a setup that it never received. Decent guitar but cr*p tremolo mechanism. The tuners needed replacing shortly afetr I bought it as one of them broke. I sold it back in 1995.
