wow. just wow. I tend to disagree that you owe the individual a reply. That's a separate issue from the grammar/spelling in the quote. It's possible that the writer isn't a native speaker of English, but it just doesn't read that way. the lack of punctuation and capital letters is the tip off for me. I tend to think that it's just spelling and grammar that is simply horrific. I would steer clear of any contact, but I'm an opinionated a@#$%le about that kind of thing.

Are you saying Wow  8) or Whoa :?: as in Hold on a minute :?:

You do owe the individual a response, in my business I offer a service, when contacted I have to respond to the inquiry. You can categorize it in ethics, etiquette, or just plain simple commerce but whichever is the answer, once you offer an item for sale and someone responds, you have to Communicate in return.
Granted it is ( The Grammar ) a separate segment but, part and parcel of the entire issue.

Let's look at it this way, the Fender Custom Shop offers their CS Strat's in some very limited numbers.
I'm interested in purchasing, I then send an inquiring E-Mail to Mike Eldred ( I know he does not handle the transactions per se ) stating my Strat layout choices.
He in turn refuses to respond, because I did not spell correctly. :?
If that is the policy ( this is all hypothetical ) then Fender can dismiss sales to foreign customers who do not speak english as fluently as you would prefer.

This is a simple solution to a simple request.

Answer the inquiry by either..
Yes, I'm interested in selling this to you or.... No, it has been sold.
You cannot say I will not sell to you, that is prejudicial and in the case of a corporation would lend them in legal hot water, it may also be the same for an individual if the potential buyer decides to pursue the matter.

That's it, Do as you wish :!: :!:

Good to know English is the Martian language! I might visit there someday. Of course, I do speak Texan, which may or may not be English. :)

Of course, reading an educated communique is infinitely more desirable than having to decipher some ignorant and/or slang gibberish.

For those who speak English as a second language, I commend them for their efforts and do not lump their efforts into the aforementioned gibberish, good, bad or indifferent. Ironically, there are more trying to learn English as a second language than those of us who speak it as our first language trying to learn another.

Now granted, we all can't be Rhodes Scholars and occasionally we will be dealing with individuals who are indeed, profoundly ignorant. ("There by the Grace of God...") Yet, I personally have no problem with this ilk as long as I can catch their drift. My problem lies with having to, for lack of a better word, "regress" so that I can communicate effectively with them where they can (hopefully) comprehend what I'm trying to convey.

well said sir.
sometimes its not how we spell it or what words we use, its how we say what we say that shows higher education.

I will likely make some terrible grammatical and spelling errors here to prove that deep down I truly am not that bright...

Can we please try and aim for a level of grammar in posts on the forum such that they are comprehensible. I understand that language usage is "evolving" with the texting revolution and email and I am ok with this. I also understand that there are people here, for whom english is not thier first language, of course most of those people write better posts than some of the english speaking people here.

I must admit that this rant was not brought on by any particular post here rather it was inspired by an email I got for an amp I have for sale online. There are enough posts here that a quite sad though and hopefully we can all try to do a little better. If this doesn't make you want to poke out your eyes so you can't read it again, I don't know what will. Anyway enjoy the email I got, I am copying it below, it's a good laugh, and if you want to help translate it to english for me please feel free.

"amp cool need fast and go 275 lower possible if i come today ready if call work out with frend mark he say that i shud pay no more 200 and used to work at musicstop in valey i think this would be good for medal and rap stuff i play but not sure can you find some exmples to me or think not

call or msg me"

There you go. I think he wants to pay 200 based on some dude named Mark that worked at a music store. Either way I don't want this person coming to my house so I am not responding out of principle.

Hi Nicholsoni, first I think that you owe this guy an answer but nothing else if you don't want to. Just choose the right words.
Secondly you are absolutely right about the grammar thing. I find that the least someone can do is to write correctly. Written language is far less permissive than spoken language in my opinion. That beeing said, a person can adapt to the skills of another person because some situations can call for some tolerance and comprehension. I always try to do my best when I'm writing in French because I take some pride in the results. And because I learned the English language later in life, I sometimes find it more difficult to write it because you just can't translate from one language to another like that. I find it to be easier to think in the language that you speak and write. I know that I make small mistakes now and then when I speak and write in English, but I also take some pride in doing my very best to avoid them. Hey, at some point you just have to post the letter and let it go.
Lastly I find it to be a discutable habit to transform words into a gibberish mixture just to be the cool guy in town. On another level, texting is not my cup of tea, but if I write "LOL" or "IMO" everybody know what they mean, because everybody can write these expressions down in plain English. They don't mean "laughin ot laoud" nor "in my opnion". Beeing too permissive brings any language one step closer to becoming a dialect some day. The bitter part of this situation is that speaking two languages, I come across these small agressions quite a bit, but hey, let's not give a few miswriten words too much power and ruin the day. Peace.

Actually you can fix stupid, it's dumb where it could be beyond the subjects capabilities.

Stupid is where One declares war against a middle eastern country.
Dumb is where one is hopelessly unable to see the exit

Literacy, wiki:"Literacy has traditionally been described as the ability to read and write".
Man this is a subject that has rules that I bend, break and sometimes ignore because when trying to get a thought down the last thing I think about is the correct place for the period or coma or what have you. I pay the price when ever writers that I know bust my stundeens over my lack of literary coherence and I try to fix said over sights but perfect am I not. If at first you don't succeed some decent editing can help.

From Americans, that is grammar, up with which we shall not put! But from ESLers, their grammar will become more gooder with time and practice.
