There's a pretty extensive interview with the great humble one in the latest G.P. mag.Besides hardly being able to get a sentence out without the F-bomb he is also having a namesake Marshall amp put out as well as a special namesake Fender Strat pup.On his next tour he plans to stock the stage with 60 100W Marshall stacks-all operational-how's that for overkill?

I struggled through the article. It was like a bad flashback to the 80s. One of the few things I appreciated about grunge was the fact it made douchebags like him unfashionable.

He's disrespectful to his instruments, to other players, even to music in general. To have such technical skill and yet be such a numbskull at the same time is astounding.

You're right about the f-bombs, too. I was always taught that profanity used in such a manner is evidence of a lazy, inarticulate person.

The fact that he bragged about inconveniencing the entire nation of Israel (for his Marshall stack "needs") is proof enough about the guy's lack of character.

PS--For all the YJM fans: Yes, he can out-play me. Yes, he has more money than me...and yes, he is famous and I am not.

But I can reach the average person with my music and he cannot...and I don't look like the jacka$$ on the cover of this month's Guitar Player magazine.

I've always heard about his ego; but actually, the GP article seemed more enthusiastic and less self-absorbed than I expected. Not quite sure where the "instrument abuse," etc., comment is coming from; maybe I need to read it again.

I also thought the wall of Marshalls was an established feature of his show, not a new one. And Israel didn't have to have him play - THEY paid him. Presumably they understood what they were getting in return.

I actually have no opinion of YM. I just thought that, based on the GP article alone, some of the opinions were a bit overwrought.

I don't know about that, during the video of his collection all I could think was "BE #$@*&!% CAREFUL."

I made an omission in my original post, his signature Strat is made by Seymour Duncan and not Fender.

This is the man who has en ego the size of a continent. He is forever going on about how he could play all of 'Made in Japan' note for note before he could walk (okay, a bit of an exaggeration but you get the picture) and how incredibly difficult his music is to play. Perhaps it is technically difficult and way out of reach of the average player but my god it's dull.

Malmsteen isn't worthy to polish Peter Green's strings.Peter Green has soul and Malmsteen probably sold his to the devil lol.

i was a huge fan back in the day. yes, i still enjoy his work. i've seen him live several times and only one show was disappointing. i can't comment on the language because i'm a potty-mouth too. i agree that he's a tool. talent, fame and fortune can do that to anyone i suppose. i guess i'm more used to a few guys here around my hometown. vinnie and the late darrell abbott of pantera. these guys would talk to anyone much the same as you would a neighbor.

Greeny is the antithesis of Malmsteen.

Why I will always seek to capture that one note says it all technique. Opposed to say Malmsteens constant dialogue says it all technique.

Be interested to see the amp though. Marshall did a bang on job with Randy Rhodes' amp clone.

The guy does get a good sound. Yeah I don't like him, I find his music ultimately unengaging. But credit where its due, he has a sound to die for. If only he could present something worth listening to.
