If you're in the UK this may well be worth looking out for :

Sitting in Africa I can only hope it hits YouTube sometime.

Interesting: this is a new documentary as far as I can tell, rather than a retread. I'm setting the hard disc recorder as I type (almost)!

Thanks TobiH! Don't worry, it'll come your way soon I expect. :)

Cheers - C

yes, it does look like a new production - let's hope that there'll be some new info - i have watched about 2000 productions where Mark always tells the same stories - can't blame him for wanting to be private though...he does tell the stories like it's the first time every time though

Interesting!

Someone posted this on his website :

"The BBC often outsources the making of documentaries, so I guess that is what is happening here. Hopefully it will be made widely available soon.

I just hope they have made a good job of it. IMO too often these days the BBC superimposes its own agenda, tastes and values on programmes.

I hope this is made by people who really value Mark's music and that the programme is worthy of the man and the wonderful things he has given us. If they do this will be a programme to cherish."

It's not the organization it was mate, that's for sure. More ten times the number of channels and ten times less watchable content.
Was watching a political program yesterday afternoon. They had a BNP spokesperson on. Now hear me right, I don't support the BNP in the slightest. However I was utterly disgusted by the way their rep was treated by the interviewer. All he was trying to do was give a straight answer and kept being shouted down by the interviewer.
Some half witted bint without a clue to reality. Who's answers seemed to have about as much relevance to the question as Salvador Dali's clock sculpture has to map making, was fawned over.
Not my idea of the accurate journalism that 'Auntie' was famous for.

Gosh, I have absolutely no idea what that means. That really is asinine. What the heck are the "tastes and values" of the BBC imagined to be?

Like any TV company the BBC makes a large proportion of its programming in partnership with others, as can be seen by looking at the end credits. In my experience they are doing more and better rock and pop material then anyone else anywhere, these days.

Many people don't realise just how much of the world's TV is in fact made by the BBC. Often it is re-voice-over'd in other countries to make it accessible to local ears, misleading people into assuming they are watching local product. They are the biggest production company in the world and one of the few broadcasters anywhere that generates a majority of their own content.

Dunno why, but that silly comment got under my skin. I wonder who said it and what his agenda is?

Cheers - C

Likely someone with very strong opinions about how the media 'colors' what it produces consistent with an agenda. Kind of like the on-goings between CNN, Fox, and MSNBC. :?

The BBC is one of the few broadcasters anywhere that has it written into its very charter that it has to be balanced and impartial. In fact, off-hand I can't think of another such.

The right constantly attacks the BBC for supposedly being full of lefties. The left complains that it is a bastion of the establishment. A sure sign that it's getting things more or less right.

In these times of supposed economic "realities" the cultural barbarians are at the gates and foaming even more at the mouths than normal. It's times like these decent minded people have to stand up for what's rare and good.

I have the opportunity to listen to BBC radio over PBS in the evenings on the drive home from the railroad station, and we have a TV link here. But BBC 4 I'm not sure about in the NY Metro area.

Draw from that what you will about the BBC's accuracy or political leanings.
The fact that they seem petrified to report anything negative about the government since 2004 speaks volumes.
