There and Back isn't a well known album of his, but it's definitely one of my favorites. This particular track has insane drums.

This is my favorite live version of Cause Weve Ended as Lovers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsfL6ATX1i4 from a DVD of his that I have from Japan in the 80s with Santana and Luke on the bill. It is also the closes he plays it to the album version Tele and all.

Here is another live version that is a duet with Clapton, whoever edited this out from Crossroads should of been fired or never work again on a project like this. They took away the video long ago but you do not need it to tell who is playing. Another example of Clapton showing when he is pushed how great he can be as he rips on this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZshJfWzgmok&NR=1

Nice to see that he's teaming up with The Who and others for charity...and a GREAT cause too!

Yesterday Rolling Stone tweeted that Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck are going to record again.

Could be nice I guess

He doesn't use a volume pedal, just the guitar volume. Practice, pracitice, practice.....

Looks like Jeff should have practiced a bit more before the show! I wonder what he didn't like about the take, maybe his harmonics not sustaining like he wanted? Nice to see him play it live, it's not exactly how I thought he was playing it...

Hi guys: there was a (small) controversy about that performance at the time, at least here on the Forum.

The Jools Holland show goes out here live on a Tuesday night in a half hour form. Then it is repeated on Friday with a lot more material in an hour long version. The take in the link above was from the Tuesday night. But when we watched the show again on Friday some people spotted that it was a different take of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Here is the retake:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJqrNAkn ... re=related

Some folks here thought it was "cheating" that Jeff had obviously asked for and was permitted a second shot at the number. A couple of Forum users got quite cross about it! Whatever: interesting to compare the two versions.

Regarding the stuff on this thread about the amps: he was using the small Fenders that day because of the string players. He runs his Marshalls flat out regardless the size of venue - and the "acoustic" musicians would be falling off their chairs at the blast given how close they were, and unable to hear their own playing. Forum users Nutter and AndyBigHair will confirm that it is not very comfortable to be anywhere near those Marshalls running at Jeff's stage volume. I saw him just a couple of weeks ago and he was using the Marshall rig - but it was a much bigger venue so it was OK.

Actually, it was flippin' fantastic! :D

Cheers - C

I was there! :D

Jeff came on for several sections of the show, including a solo spot. He also backed Debbie Harry in three Blondie numbers, which was strange but good!

At the end they did the inevitable "let's get everyone back on stage" section. Here's The Who plus Jeff Beck on lead with Debbie Harry and Brian Adams on backing vocals. They're doing The Who's Join Together:

Sorry about the picture quality. Small camera from quite far back: tickets for a charity gig bought at short order - we had to take what we could get.

Here's the best shot I could get of Jeff's rig:

Would be very cool. The Jeff Beck Group made some of my favorite albums of all-time.

One way or another we all get touched by that one, that's for sure.

The Who have been behind a charity called the Teenage Cancer Trust for many years. In fact, I have an idea it might have been Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend who actually set it up. I seem to recall Fender helping the charity out by donating guitars for auction in the past on this very website. And FenderUK gave a Strat signed by everyone in this show (above) that was auctioned that night too. (I didn't win it...)

This gig turned out to be specifically raising money for a treatment called PDT - Photo Dynamic Therapy. I haven't the faintest idea whether that is serious and real, or some out-there wacky nonsense. It did sound a bit too good to be true. Be interested if there's a doctor in the house with anything to say on that...

Anyway. As you say, the broader cause is a very good one.

Cheers - C

Well, I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on the interwebs  but I have heard of
this treatment from my oncology team. Instead of trying to explain it, here's a link to what it's all about :

Well its all there, clearly defined and explained. Fascinating pathway. First I've heard of it, honestly. Hopefully further diversification and improvement will eventually eliminate the need for systemic toxic chemotherapy in favor of target specific agents.
