My local GC has a Blues Deluxe in Tweed that has been there for at least six months. Hasn't this model been discontinued? Anyway, the tag says $749. The salesman says he'll give me 10% off or $675. Shouldn't I get a better discount for a discontinued, been in stock a while amp?

you would think so. with new models coming, usually discontinued items need to get out of the way. especially true if they have a good size inventory.

if, however, it is a popular amp, and there aren't a lot left, it could go for the regular price. supply and demand.

i would give them your number, and say "call me when the price goes down" hopefully you'll hear back soon- good luck

I think if they want to move it, they should do better. The new generation 3 models are out and have some upgrades in them. Just my opinion here, but offer them 500, and see where it goes

+1/ Show up with $550 cash in hand and lay it on the table. If they say no you haven't missed out on anything, but you also haven't overpaid for an amp that has been played through thousands of times and abused by the GC patrons.

Well put. Anything off the floor or the wall is used and often abused. IMHO, even thought it's not been officially sold. It's beyond demo as well. If you had purchased it new 6 mos ago and brought it in on trade rest assured I'd bet they'd offer you $300, and then mark it up 50%.

Well put. 50% off the old list price sounds good and seems to be in the ball park for that gear used. Anything off the floor or the wall is used and often abused. If you had purchased it new 6 mos ago and brought it in on trade rest assured I'd bet they'd offer you $300, and then mark it up 50%. I always make it a habit, when I'm in their stores, to walk around and make a mental note of how they price used gear. Do that and you'll have some idea as to how to deal with them in future.

You should be able to find one online at 20% less that price brand new in the box. Look for coupons SA, GC, M123 are always giving specials on line, sign up for their email and you will get at least a 15% from some and then everyone usually matches it.

To buy a floor model amp from GC at that price is a rip. I got a Line 6 Spidervalve 112 Bogner tube amp for $299 last year from SA storefront new in box. Price dropped to $399 and they had a $100 off coupon!

GC never seems to be the lowest price in my experience. You amp should be stratch and dent at this point. Oh ask about their warranty on that beat up floor model?

here's an idea- since guitar center is pushing the extender warranty, see if they'll thrown in an extra year or two, along with a discount.

when i sold tv's 15 years ago, we would give discounts on floor models when new ones came out. these set wre on between 9 and 12 hours a day from the day they hit the floor. no way i would have bought one unless the warranty was extended at no charge

with the amp, i'm sure it won't have as many hours as the tv, but you don't know how it was treated.

I definitely agree with Bill and BCB here. Cash talks at guitar center. I usually go in and play the on the fence role. Plant the seed so they know you have cash in your pocket and then be non-commital about whether or not you're sure that's the amp you want, they'll probably want to start wheeling and dealing. Drop some lines about the comparable amp at the small music shop near your house that you are also considering.

When I bought my Schecter Hellraiser they were asking $750, I got it for $550, as well as 10% off the half-stack I also bought that day, a free case and 10 packs of Ernie Ball's. You gotta be persistent, and make sure they understand that you know what you're talking about (even if you don't, it should be easy to fool a GC clerk).

go talk to a store manager, telling him your thoughts. GC dont have to discount it to much since fender will give them credit on it if it dont sell.
i think they should do better since its a floor model though.
