Thanks for all the suggestions guys! Looks like I've got a lot of listening to do.

btw...Here's what I've been messing around on. It's a little strat type guitar that my grandad bought me for 5 bucks back when I was 6 and it's the guitar I played when I was first learning, and the pickups have a naturally growly, crackly sound that sounds awesome with the slide. I took off the D string as I felt it kind of got in the way, and I have the guitar tuned to open D (minus the D string of course). I use the two lower strings for just chords and rhythm type stuff and all my leads on the higher strings.
If I decide it's worth it, I'll probably set up a nicer guitar for slide, but for, now I'm actually liking the sound I'm getting.

I only recently learned of him. Must be a real guitar player if he joined Fleetwood Mac after Lindsay Buckingham left. His web site has his back ground, CDs and a Hal Leonard book on learning slide. I have a number of Hal Leonard books, most of you folks are way past that stage, but I find them very good and will be adding this slide book to my collection.

He's also with the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band

I totally agree, but who in the hell can copy him,the guy plays some of the most complicated things like playing notes behind the slide....amazing.
I've played slide for probably 35 years and have never seen anyone who I couldn't cop some licks from but Sonny is in a league all his own...and he plays in about 15 different tunings! :D seriously though,he tunes to a Dm in songs like Congo Square and to dabble around in that tuning is cool...it has a dark sound to it.

You mean this guy?

I shot this at a local "Concert Under The Stars" It cost me a whole $10 to see him. It was seriously worth a lot more. By the way, all my images are copyrighted.

Travelling Riverside Blues by Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite slide songs ever. Also Memo from Turner is awesome (Cant find tabs though) and Rory Gallagher's slide playing is absolutely amazing.

God whenever i hear that song i get amazing feelings running through my body. I wish i would've been in that crowd.

If you get a chance to see Robert Randolph and The Family band I would highly recommend it. He's more a lap/pedal steel player but just mind blowing how he plays slide.

Those are great pics of Sonny Landreth...see how he is fretting behind the slide in that one.
You were lucky to get to see him and evidently up close. He played at a small venue here in Nashville but unfortunately I missed him,a friend saw him and said he was great.I have a live cd of his and it's awesome...can't remember the title.

Robert Randolph and John Medeski hooked up with Chris,Cody and Luther (the North Mississippi Allstars) and formed a band they callled The Word. Kind of a gospel/blues influenced outfit.
