Last week's NAMM experience gave us some valuable insight into what happens when we leave the forums wide open for posting, 24-7, for 4 days with minimal moderation. 99.9999% of folks settled right in and conducted business as usual -- thanks so much. Sadly, there's always that 0.0001% out there who has to step in and ruin the party for everyone else ... and we had 4 or 5 distinct incidents to deal with over the course of the weekend.

That said, it wasn't THAT bad and the other thing that was clear is that by opening up the hours we got some more meaningful, deep conversations happening. Duh -- no brainer there, I know.

So ... let's go ahead and take at least a step toward our ultimate goal of 24-7/7/365 activity here. I've just changed the posting hours to 6 A.M. through 10 P.M., Monday through Friday and let's try running with that for a while and see how it goes. That's an extra two and a half hours in the mornings and an extra four and a half hours at night.

I've been pondering the moderation topic and had a moment of brilliance this weekend about how we can achieve a true self-moderating 24-7 community by taking advantage of YOUR help but doing so in a democratic, community-spirited way. I'm going to be working on that on the side over the months ahead and will share what I'm talking about when I've gotten it all figured out and am ready to try experimenting with rolling it out. In the meantime, let's try 6 AM to 10 PM Monday through Friday and see how it goes, eh?

Excellent stuff, can't wait til I can post on weekends eventually too! :)

It'll be good to see this place flourish with minimal spam (and it's speedy removal of course :D) and maximum activity and discussion.

sounds good.... like you stated, everyone here seems to be quiet helpful and friendly, but with increasing numbers, theres bound to be a few who try to ruin it, but i suppose thats how it goes

Let's see how it goes!

It seems like the "Report Abuse" thing works.

Thanks for extending the hours. As far as the 0.0001%, they'd still find a way in even if the forum was only open for an hour a day...
