Hey guys, I noticed that this amp was briefly mentioned in other forums, but I thought that it deserved its own thread.

The Fretted Americana Evil Robot amp is a replication of the old-school Magnatone Tonemasters. (To clear up confusion, they were going to call it "Tonemonster" but were threatened with legal action.)

Here are some vids:
Video 1:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJrNVqB9mZs&feature=related
Video 2:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDlQq08P36w&feature=related
Video 3 (Stars a 50s Strat):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt9d3G6PSRI
An average guy made this, to show how it sounds in non-professional hands:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icZxy3jab-g&feature=related
Clean Tone:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmO7g-JEPyc
Specs Video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1oEnWW30bE&feature=related

I know the guy in the video, Phil X, is a bit of a character, but please try to keep the conversation related to the amp

The price is $1595. I'm interested. What do you guys think of the amp in terms of sound and value?

I was undecided untill he played the Junior through it and to be honest I thing the Tonemaster sounded better. They both sound good but for some reason I cant explain I liked the original better.. the Tonemonster sounded too Heavy metal gritty-ish for my liking :) Otherwise, very cool :) I dont think I would pay so much for an amp that wasn't a reputed brand that would return a resale value- you have to look at what is coming out of china these days as far as hand wired amps are concerned :)

I agree. I liked the Tonemaster's sound better. It sounded more colorful to me.

It looks like a really sweet amp, would love to try one but I doubt I can here in Europe.
It's also a bit too pricey for my taste (and pocket).
Phil X looks like a cool guy, would love to met him one day.

I was thinking that the fact that it was a small amp maker, making a limited run of amps, would make it have a rather good resale value. Am I wrong in this?

i like both amps for different reasons.
i like the master for its classic sounds and vintage vibe.
the monster has more bass and i like that when playing these days.
its a natural bass and not "in the mix" so to speak.
for my style and tastes im in on the monster, i just wouldnt
give the classic the attention it deserves, im afraid i would butcher the
tone up a bit. just being honest. i do like them both and cant pick as to which
is the better amp, but i do know which one is better for me. The Monster.
a little steep on the price though.

Remember Phil X is also routing thru the Skull Crusher at times.

I would buy one for one reason, I have a Magnatone, a Custom Classic 410, but there is no way I'm taking it out to a blues Jam or to any club venue. It is too valuable so the tone monster..oops I mean Evil Robot ( I don't get the name either ) will fit that like a glove.

No but if you have ever played a Magnatone, you'll understand why they are so difficult to find and whoever has one would prefer to sell their offsprings rather than the Magnatone.

Looks cool but a bit pricey for me.

Guys, I bought it, and I can't be happier.

I've got an unboxing video that I will upload to YouTube, and I plan on doing a little video review too. I'll post those here once I get around to it.

Long story short, though, it's a fantastic amplifier. One thing I love is how very responsive it is to your picking technique.

Here's a review from Premier Guitar.
