Theres a reason Jeff Beck sells the world over.

I thank you for all your informed opinions on this. I can deduct enough out of it that i get what other people think of him. I just don't get why he has such a musically educated following. I love one of the comments made by ninja

Articulation and the ability to put more expression into one note than pretty much anyone else can put into a 13 song album.
HILLARIOUS!!!! Completely ridiculas but hillarious never the less.

I would call it more like the special kid in the corner had the desire but not quite the feel or the patience to study the instrument so he took up copius amount of alcohol and drugs and sat in the corner trying to make single notes talk with the tremmlo bar and volume pot.
Anyway history tells us that it is not always pure raw talent that maketh fame and money. And good luck to him and everyone who enjoys his music!!!!

Peace!!!

he who cannot spell hilarious and ridiculous is in no position to make "special kid" analogies or jokes....

OK....to the original OP...

(1) Pick up " Truth ", after listening to the entire recording, look at the date it was released.
Now do some searching, should be easy with Google or whichever search engine strikes your fancy. Compare that recording to other recordings released in about the same year or even two or three years later.

(2) Again Pick Up and listen to " Blow By Blow ". Same criteria.

(3) Again but now pickup " Wired ".

(4) We could go on for a couple more releases but to the recent present time.
How many instrumentalists can take " Somewhere Over The Rainbow " ( I think that is the title)
and not only pull it off, but make it sound fresh... :?:

Yes there are a couple times where he has not reached the goal, but in Jeff Beck's case, the bar is set quite high.
If you watch the video of Live at Ronnie's and look at who is in the audience, that pretty much spells it out as far as his status in guitar world.

The only way you can dismiss him is if you are able to share the stage with him and walk off an equal.
I think that club you can count on one hand..

Jeff can be an aquired taste for some new students to the guitar. His technique is beautifully impossible to copy. His vocal like expressions on the guitar make me think he could walk in to any restaraunt, play his order to the waitress on the guitar, and she would bring back what ever he was thinking about eating as he played.

And there we have it back to the stoned special kid in the corner that could not be bothered learning scale after scale key after key, Mode after Mode, Arpeggio after Arpeggio so he got fingered and tried to make the strat talk with the trem and the volume!!!! And made millions!!!! God bless him!!!!!

No not at all!! Please i do not mean to offend i just thought it a ridiculasly impossible comment....... I mean really......More tonal quality in one note than a 13 song album....I love and admire your passion but even you must smirk at the rose colour fingers you were typing that comment with......

Fair enough i do agree, But i sincerely believe if you look at 69 recordings, Jimi, Plant, BB King i think the only time they sound as dead cat calling is if they were going through a try to copy jeff beck stage well in plants case anyway like communication breakdown. Because when plant wasnt, like Jimi they were, if not only literally musically smoking the special kid!!!!

Just my opinion!!! Go Jeff!!!!!

the guy just wants to know why Jeff Beck has such a loyal following, and obviously he didn't get his answer from all the comments, he got the opposite, lol.

to the OP - I personally am not much of a Jeff Beck fan, but I have no in depth reason why, just his music doesn't speak to me, obviously you feel the same, and thats your answer, his music speaks to some people, his talent to others, some just have a great respect for his abilities and some just don't like his music, its all that simple. Preference, remember, everything with gear and music is just preference.

I somehow do not recall seeing Plant ever wielding any kind of electric when I saw Led Zep in 75, in as far as Page is concerned, Page was doing session work at the same time as Beck, not withstanding their history goes back a long time replacing one another in different bands. 8)

I don't really see the connection between Jimi and Beck and B.B. and Page.
Each are quite recognisable with their own signature, but when did it become an Olympic event :?:

I would also venture to say ( in reference to one of your earlier post ) concerning scales, or in short music theory, that Beck would have had a difficult time playing with the roster of musicians ( Carmine Appice, Nile Rodgers, Jan Hammer, Narada Michael Walden, Max Middleton, Wibur Bascomb, Terry Bozzio and Tony Himas.) without a solid understanding of musical notes and where they fall on the spectrum.
I somehow don't think he sat in his room reading Tablature..

It's clearly evident that you dislike his contributions, however, I dislike quite a bit of music myself, for whatever reason is irrelevant, but when faced with someone who is truly an outstanding musician, respect is due, regardless of the style of music...

It actually was answered, quite eloquently by Nikki, I might add :!:

The reference to Plant and Jimi and BB is due to you asking me to consider other recordings of around the same era. So i do not consider it an olympic event i was just giving consideration to your comment or era's of the truth and blow by blow. It is just my opinion and i am extremely lucky to have been answered with all of your opinions on his music. As i said my ear does not hear a inspiring musician to listen to. I cannot ever imagine wanting to play any lick i have heard of his in the short time i have listened. I think he misses just too often and its frustrating and i was really interested to hear other musicians opinion on his music.
I dont disrespect him in any way, i can say i respect him if you like, like i respect anyone who learns a instrument but i certainly will not hold him in high regard, I have meet guitarists at local blues mike nights who i think sound worlds better and 5 times more understanding of what they are doing. He obviously is a legend. I am totally happy for him. And people who listen to him i just don't get it that's all. Humour aside basing his whole act on the trem bar and missing (alot) is just plain jane ordinairy to my ear.
